NIRVANA !!!!!
Snake_Plissken_19515 August 2003
One of the best and most interesting MTV Video Music Awards. This award show featured live performances from Nirvana,Guns N Roses,Black Crows,Red Hot Chili Peppers etc. Nirvana started their live performance act with the opening of the song "Rape Me" and then shifted to the song "Lithium". It was a funny moment in Rock N Roll history having Nirvana start with their song "Rape Me" on live television as a prank and a scary moment for MTV suits. After they performed the song "Lithium" Dave Grohl of Nirvana starts taunting Axl Rose from the stage by saying on microphone "Hi Axl,Hi Axl,Wheres Axl? Hi Axl,Hi Axl,Hi Axl" while Nirvana destroyed their instruments.Nirvana won Best New Artist and Best Alternative Video for the song "Smells like Teen Spirit".Guns N' Roses performed their song "November Rain" it was a Great performance. Sorry if anyone is pissed off that i didn't include any other band in this summery but Nirvana stole the show of the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards.

MTV Video Music Awards 1992!
Movie Nuttball5 January 2004
Back when things were different in 1992 one very anticipated event was the MTV Music Awards! The show was lengthy as always but it had a different look and feel to it. With Dana Carvey being the host and have a little comedy with David Spade with Andrew Dice Clay and Ringo Starr. There were so many countless stars on this show. There was a big thunder storm the night it was on and the power went off a while and I never found out if My favorite band Metallica performed. James Hetfield and the gang are listed here but I am not sure. I know Pearl Jam, and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers performed and it was cool how Ice T looked. The show was good but the best thing that happened was Nirvana's performance! The performance was totally unpredictable! Kurt Cobain's looks was so cool and it seemed like he was making up new words in the songs Lithium. The performance was nuts! He just trashed his guitar like it was nothing! This show is so much different compared to how it is now. If you watched it back then I'm sure you know what I mean! If there is any way you can watch this very show on tape do so because it was cool!

MTV Get OFF The Air
candrew0889 February 2005
MTV is worthless today - or maybe I'm just getting older. But no matter what kind of music you like, the 1992 MTV Music Awards was probably the most interesting just for the fact it occurred as a major transition was taking place in music. Groups like Guns and Roses and Van Halen were no longer the cool groups and they seemed to become a parody of themselves right before your eyes while the suits still insisted on paying homage to them. Guns And Roses won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award despite the fact they were mocked by Nirvana during their performance for their contrived, fake image. Van Halen won video of the year for "Right Now" - possibly the worst, most silly song they've ever made.

Grunge had broken into the mainstream about a year earlier and alternative performers such as Pearl Jam, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and of course Nirvana blew the previous big name/big money groups off the air. A good show that had an air of spontaneity - which has been long been since squashed by MTV.
