Storyline

Chris Jones (Malik Yoba) is a strong, independent, black man who finds himself lost on a desolate road. Upon sighting a small, previously not there, diner, he pulls in to find help. What he finds is a pocket of life that seems to be in another era, where prejudice and intolerance are accepted, where the small minds of angry men call the shots and where one woman attempts to save him and fails. He must escape his way back to the safe confines of his truck and being lost without losing his life. Written by Cecily Gambrell

Good Lesson/Good Film
4 October 2005 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I saw this short film at a film festival. It is about a black man (Yoba) who takes for granted the way things used to be and the struggles blacks have had to over come. He and his friends use derogatory terms to refer to each other, like the n-word.Yoba's character gets lost while driving and ends up in an old-fashioned backwoods dinner complete with a "no coloreds" sign in the window. With some help he has to find away to get away from the locals. As he tries to escape he learns what it means to have pride in yourself and the real power and meaning certain words held for others. It was a good short. It was not as preachy as I am making it sound. Malik Yoba as always is good actor and he is great in this short. The other actors were great as well.
