‘Twin Peaks’: Time Loops and Soup Offer Clues to the Town’s Dysfunction and Imminent Danger

7 August 2017 9:02 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Twin Peaks: The Return,” Season 3, “Part 13” (Episode 13).]

History repeating itself on “Twin Peaks” has so far fallen into the category of not learning from or not being able to move on from past mistakes. Shelly (Madchen Amick) married an abusive man when she was too young and is now romantically involved with Red (Balthazar Getty), a man who’s been shown to have violent tendencies. Her daughter Becky (Amanda Seyfried) also married an abusive man.

In this past Sunday’s episode, Ed Hurley (Everett McGill) reveals through a heartbreaking look that he’s still in love with Norma (Peggy Lipton), while she’s involved with someone else. Even Ed’s nephew James (James Marshall) gives viewers major deja vu with his rendition of “Just You,” a song he had crooned in Season 2 of the original series with two dark-haired ladies backing him up.

How ‘Speechless,’ ‘Atlantic Avenue,’ ‘Krystal’ Showcase the Underserved

3 August 2017 11:05 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

For all the noise Hollywood has made these past few years over the issue of racial diversity and gender equality in film and TV, one segment of society remains drastically underserved — the disabled. Strides have been made — Becky (Lauren Potter) on “Glee” had Down syndrome; ABC series “Speechless” centers on Jj, a teenage boy with cerebral palsy played by Micah Fowler, who has the disorder in real life — but those examples are few and far between. For the most part, there are no disabled characters on the big and small screens, and if there are, they are not played by actors with disabilities. Financial constraints and budgetary concerns are often cited as the reason studios don’t do a better job of hiring disabled actors. Even more disheartening is that if there is a story focusing on a character with a disability, his entire life story revolves around the fact that he is disabled. Case »

‘Dark Tower’ Director Nikolaj Arcel Joins Matt Damon’s Robert F. Kennedy Movie

19 July 2017 6:06 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Matt Damon’s Robert F. Kennedy biopic “Rfk” has picked up momentum as “The Dark Tower” director Nikolaj Arcel has signed on to direct Damon in the Warner Bros. project.

Arcel will direct from a script he co-wrote with Rasmus Heisterberg and Felipe Marino. Damon will produce with Jennifer Todd and Drew Vinton. Production is expected to start next year.

Kennedy ran the successful 1960 presidential campaign for his brother, John F. Kennedy, and served as U.S. Attorney General and top adviser to his brother between 1961 and 1963. He remained in the post for President Lyndon B. Johnson for several months after his brother’s assassination, then resigned to run for the U.S. Senate, representing New York.

Kennedy served until his assassination in June, 1968, while seeking the Democratic presidential nomination on a platform of ending U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.

Newswire: The Dark Tower’s Nikolaj Arcel to direct Matt Damon’s Robert Kennedy movie

19 July 2017 5:21 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Director Nikolaj Arcel’s The Dark Tower is about a legendary hero on a nearly impossible quest to save all of reality from an evil wizard, but it looks like Arcel’s next film will be slightly less fantastical. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’ll be directing Matt Damon in Rfk, a long-in-the-works biopic about Robert F. Kennedy. Damon is set to play the former presidential candidate, who was assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan in 1968, with Arcel writing the script.

No other actors are attached to Rfk yet, but hopefully the movie doesn’t spend too much time putting together a big-name cast at the expense of virtually everything else in the production, which is the pit that Emilio Estevez’s Bobby fell into way back in 2006. Or maybe Arcel should just get the same cast (including Martin Sheen, Shia Labeouf, Lindsay Lohan, Anthony Hopkins, and Demi Moore »

Actor caught on camera insulting black police officer.

Troubled actor Shia Labeouf took to social media on Wednesday to apologise for a racist outburst recorded on police video.

Labeouf was caught on camera insulting a black police offer following his arrest in Savannah, Georgia, on Saturday on suspicion of obstruction, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after he allegedly asked a passer-by for a cigarette.

Labeouf is heard in the video saying to the black officer: “You’re going to hell, straight to hell, bro.” When the officer’s white colleague asked Labeouf how he could make that statement based on the man’s colour, the actor replied, “It means a whole lot, bro.”

Moments later the actor, who was in the process of being fingerprinted by the officers, claimed he had been arrested because he was white.

Labeouf, who earned strong reviews in Andrea Arnold’s Cannes 2016 selection American Honey and stars as tennis legend John McEnroe in the »

How Whitney Houston Factors Into Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick's 5-Year Feud

27 April 2017 10:50 AM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

If Ryan Murphy needs any inspiration for Feud's third season, he might want to consider the drama unfolding between Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick. The "Respect" singer, who recently announced plans for retirement, accused fellow soul diva Dionne Warwick of making "libelous" statements about her on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. Aretha notably covered Dionne's hits "Walk on By" and "I Say a Little Prayer" in the late '60s, but apparently the bad blood between them has been simmering for years. "At this point, it isn't about an apology, it's about libel," she said. "We've never been friends, and I don't think that Dionne has ever liked me." The drama allegedly all started five years ago at Whitney Houston's funeral. Dionne was making a speech in front of the funeral-goers and introduced Aretha before realizing that she wasn't actually there. "'Ree's not here, but she is here, »

Aretha Franklin Blasts Dionne Warwick for a Five-Year-Old Comment Made at Whitney Houston’s Funeral

Aretha Franklin still hasn’t forgotten a small error fellow singer Dionne Warwick made at Whitney Houston’s funeral in 2012.

The 75-year-old “Natural Woman” singer sent the Associated Press a “lengthy fax” on Monday, and spoke to the wire on the phone on Tuesday, accusing Warwick, 76, of making up a story that she was Houston’s godmother.

“She blatantly lied on me… fully well knowing what she was doing,” Franklin tells the AP.

Franklin claims Warwick’s statement was “libelous.” At the time, Warwick told funeral-goers that Franklin was in attendance and introduced her, but then realized she wasn’t present. »
