Child 44 Review

5 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s hard to dislike Tom Hardy as an actor. Whatever cinematic challenge he takes on, from atypically brainy blockbusters like Inception and The Dark Knight Rises to taut dramas like Bronson and Locke, he always gives it his all, digging under his character’s skins with a diligence and canniness that elevates him above possibly any other actor of his generation. Along the way, he’s found particular success in embodying strong, silent types, the kinds of men who more resemble wild animals than well-mannered gentlemen. Hardy’s characters are like caged wolves – as much as you want to reach in and pet them, you might lose your hand if you do.

In Child 44, the actor is up to his usual tricks. As Leo Demidov, a dedicated security officer tasked with cracking down on traitors in Joseph Stalin’s Soviet Union, Hardy plays another hardened man’s man, »

Fringe Alum Lance Reddick to Guest Star in Castle Finale

16 April 2015 7:56 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

As we head closer and closer to the end of the TV season, we’re also getting closer and closer to the season finales of some of your favorite shows, including ABC’s Castle, which will be finishing up its seventh season next month. While not many details are known about the finale, aside from its title, “Hollander’s Woods,” we do have a fresh new piece of intel: Fringe and The Wire alum Lance Reddick will be guest starring in the Castle Season 7 finale. Castle star Penny Johnson Jerald broke the casting news when she posted a photo with Reddick on the Castle set yesterday. TVLine has since confirmed with an ABC rep that Reddick will indeed be appearing in the show’s Season 7 finale; however, details about the character the actor will be playing are being kept under wraps (like much of the other information regarding the finale) for some reason. »

Ranking Gwyneth Paltrow Controversies

14 April 2015 5:21 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

In April of 2013, Gwyneth Paltrow was named America's Most Hated Celebrity by Star Magazine, which makes sense considering the amount of vitriol that's so regularly spewed at the Goop lifestyle magnate online. So why does the "Iron Man" star inspire so much anger? While Gwyneth is undoubtedly out of touch with the "average person" in a chronic and frequently cringeworthy sort of way, the amount of criticism directed at her feels, to me, out of all proportion to her so-called offenses. In contrast to the insufferable kowtowing of most celebrities who have made it their mission to prove how "relatable" they are to the public at large, Gwyneth is unapologetic about the fact that she grew up privileged (she's the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and late producer Bruce Paltrow) and has no idea what it's like to be live paycheck to paycheck. "I can't pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year, »

Kevin Feige talks Ant-Man and its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, new trailer arriving tomorrow

12 April 2015 2:46 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Yesterday during the press conference for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige announced that the second trailer for the studio’s other 2015 release Ant-Man is set to arrive online tomorrow (Monday 13th April), while he also took a moment to discuss the film’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during an interview with Slash Film.

“[Ant-Man] is not [an after-thought]. The truth is the phases mean a lot to me and some people but Captain America: Civil War is the start of Phase Three. It just is. And Ant-Man is a different kind of culmination of Phase Two because it very much is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You meet new characters and you learn about Hank Pym and his lineage with the McU over the years. First official image of Yellowjacket from Marvel’s Ant-Man

EW has debuted the first official photo of Yellowjacket, the big-bad to Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man in Marvel’s other big summer movie.

In the film, Corey Stoll (House of Cards) plays Yellowjacket, who in the comics first appeared as an alternate superhero identity for Hank Pym in Avengers #59. However, in the film he will be Darren Cross, a former associate of Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym.

“Hank Pym’s Ant-Man suit doesn’t have a single weapon,” director Peyton Reed tells EW, “whereas Yellowjacket is armed with plasma cannons.”

Ant-Man is set for release on July 17th, 2015, and stars Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man) as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas (Behind The Candelabra) as Dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll (House of Cards) as Darren Cross / Yellowjacket, John Slattery (Iron Man 2) as Howard Stark, Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger »

Role-play and Robert Greene

9 April 2015 7:00 AM, PDT | Keyframe | See recent Keyframe news »

Documentarian, editor, critic, one of the "10 Filmmakers to Watch" according to the Independent film magazine and now filmmaking faculty at the New Murray Center for Documentary Journalism at the Missouri School of Journalism, Robert Greene is bound by no one title. It's fitting then that Actress, his latest directorial effort, is a rich, multilayered affair, unable to be neatly placed into a single genre. An intoxicating fusion of fiction and non-fiction, the movie intimately chronicles the trial and tribulations of actress-turned-housewife Brandy Burre (The Wire). Equally spellbinding and heartbreaking, Greene's masterwork in cinematic non-fiction constantly forces us to evaluate the veracity of what's in front of us.>> - Sam Fragoso »

Idris Elba Believes His Chance Of Playing James Bond Is Already Gone

8 April 2015 10:29 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Few roles in cinema garner as much attention as 007, and much like the character’s short life expectancy on screen, there’s always conjecture regarding who is next in line to pick up the Walter Ppk and step into the shoes of the secret agent. And recently, that speculation has centered around Luther star Idris Elba, who has seemingly been a hot favorite to nab the role of James Bond for years at this point.

In fact, Elba’s chances of securing the gig almost reached a tipping point following the Sony hacking scandal, which revealed that a number of employees at the company wanted the 42-year-old to replace current star Daniel Craig when the time comes. However, speaking at the British Film Institute, Elba addressed the speculation once and for all, stating that if there was ever a chance of him getting the chance to play James Bond, it’s already long gone. »

Bessie: Watch the Trailer for the HBO Biopic, Starring Queen Latifah

3 April 2015 3:31 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Last month, we saw the first picture and teaser from HBO's upcoming Bessie, a biopic covering the life of blues songstress Bessie Smith, arguably the most exquisite set of pipes North America has ever produced. Smith is being portrayed by Queen Latifah, and the latest trailer highlights what looks to be one of her routine firebrand performances as the blues singer, who was notorious for her drinking and subsequent mean streak. More than the teaser, for certain, this trailer also gives a small sense of Smith's tumultuous relationship with her husband, played by Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), and Ma Rainey (Mo'Nique), her longtime friend, colleague, and fellow singer. The rest of the film that can be gleaned from the new trailer looks to be normal biopic fare, the same kind of scenes of alcoholism, emotional breakdowns, abuse, and performance that make up more than 50% of like-minded musician »

American Odyssey Review – TV NBC

2 April 2015 3:06 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Much as the horror genre is deeply rooted in the evolving culture that creates it, NBC‘s latest “action-drama,” American Odyssey, builds itself from the conspiracy fears that are now equally laughed off and assumed to be obviously true.

Sgt. Odelle Ballard (Anna Friel, “Pushing Daisies”) is part of a group that stumbles upon an Al Qaeda’s top commander, but she quickly discovers intel that suggests an American corporation is funding the group. A private military company comes to clean up, and Odelle’s company is killed to cover things up. She escapes, but now she’s on the run, and a long way from home, and doesn’t have anyone she can trust.

Meanwhile, back at home, former U.S. Attorney Peter Decker (Peter Facinelli) is in the middle of a merger with the same company that apparently funded the jihadists, and he starts to put the pieces »

TV Review: ‘American Odyssey’

2 April 2015 7:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

NBC describes “American Odyssey” as “’Traffic’-like,” which might explain the lack of inspiration permeating this multi-pronged drama, which, much like sibling USA’s “Dig,” hinges on a vast (and tedious) conspiracy. The intersecting threads involve a U.S. soldier in North Africa, a corporate lawyer and an Occupy-type political activist, each embroiled in a monstrous plot reaching up and into government. First-rate casting — including Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli and Treat Williams — can’t obscure the been-there, seen-that sensation, which doesn’t spur much curiosity about how these tentacles connect or offer much hope the show will last long enough to find out.

Friel (“Pushing Daisies”) plays the soldier, Sgt. Odelle Ballard, who while on a mission in Mali pursuing a wanted terrorist stumbles across computer files revealing a major corporation is providing money to the Jihadists. When she offers an inkling of what she has learned to higher-ups — namely, »

‘The Walking Dead’ Has Nothing to Fear But ‘Fear’ Itself

30 March 2015 12:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The Walking Dead” is back in off-season mode, which takes on a slightly different quality this year, as the machinery revs up on “Walking Dead Inc.”

Normally, the season finale would mean a whole lot of reruns and breathless teases to keep fans salivating until the program’s return in October. This summer, however, will mark the debut of what amounts to a second front in the form of the spinoff “Fear the Walking Dead,” seeking to expand upon AMC’s 16 weeks a year of blockbuster ratings.

So while the creative state of the show is significant, what might be more intriguing now are the larger business issues surrounding the franchise.

In some respects, few hit series are better suited to launching self-sustained entities – it’s not like the L.A. prequel is going to board a plane for Alexandria or engage in “NCIS”-like crossover conference calls – although there »
