This video could have been brilliant. A good comedian, a great venue, a packed and enthusiastic audience, a live band on the stage. Alas, it isn't. Whether Mike Reid had a bad case of nerves on the night or if he'd just used up his best material on his previous live videos, we'll probably never know, but the majority of his act here is extremely tiresome stuff, sounding like jokes pilfered from children's comics and spiced up with unnecessary swearing and sex references. It's as if he's trying to compete with Roy Chubby Brown, which wasn't a wise move - Reid, like all decent entertainers, is good when he's doing his own thing, not modifying his act to catch a trend or grab a piece of a larger audience. There are some funny moments, if you don't mind your humour a deep shade of blue, but Reid races through the material in a voice that suggests Arthur Mullard with his jaws wired together and the poor live sound doesn't help matters. The earlier live videos, recorded at the Beck Theatre in Hayes, Middlesex, are far superior to this effort.
