John August, who penned the current Tim Burton release Big Fish, is reteaming with the director to write the script for Warner Bros. Pictures' Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Johnny Depp is attached to star in the redo of the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Warners is keen on getting the project before cameras early next year. August, who is said to have enjoyed an extremely positive working relationship with Burton on Big Fish, isn't the first writer hired to help Warners mount the update. Scott Frank, Gwyn Lurie and Pamela Pettler have previously handled writing chores but August is starting from scratch, sources said, by heading back to the original source material, the Roald Dahl classic novel. Photographer Banned From Selling Topless Diaz Snaps

28 November 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

A photographer who took topless snapshots of Cameron Diaz before she became famous has been barred from selling the pictures by a Los Angeles judge. John Rutter was issued with a permanent court injunction which also prevents him from publicizing the photos in any way or keeping them in his possession. Rutter has been charged with attempted extortion for allegedly demanding $3.3 million from the beauty for the pictures, which were taken in 1992. He has also been charged with forging Diaz's signature on the release form. Prosecutors say Rutter threatened to sell the photographs to a group in Europe over the summer, saying they would be posted on billboards and buses in Japan to coincide with the release of the movie Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. Diaz, 31, who made her name after starring opposite Jim Carrey in the 1994 comedy The Mask, has been fighting through the courts for months to prevent the photos being published. »

24 October 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Demi Moore has scoffed at reports she's planning to marry her toyboy lover Ashton Kutcher after hearing news of the supposed nuptials on the radio. A shocked Moore called Dees up straight away to tell him the story was "completely made up". A source adds, "It's something that started in the tabs and just kept getting repeated until it was being reported as true." »

Barrymore: Moore "Overshadowed" Latest 'Charlie's Angels'

17 October 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Drew Barrymore has blamed her Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle co-star Demi Moore for "overshadowing" the movie. The action sequel failed to match the success of the 2000 original, despite being Moore's much-vaunted return to the big screen - and Barrymore believes the publicity the Striptease actress attracted adversely affected the film. She says, "You could say there is a bit of irony in all that. In the film, Demi's character Madison Lee wanted to overshadow the new Angels and that's what happened in reality." However, Barrymore - who also produces the films - is still keen to make a third Angels movie. She explains, "I refuse to feel bad and wouldn't even if the film had only made back its costs. I've had a wonderful experience these past six years working on the Angel movies with Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, who are two of my best friends. If a dynamite third script surfaces, I'm pretty certain we'd all come back for more." »

Premiere nabs 'T3,' 'Bad Boys II'

14 October 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

CANNES -- German pay TV platform Premiere announced Monday that it has signed a new output deal with Sony Pictures, giving Premiere pay TV rights to such Sony blockbusters as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Bad Boys II and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. The multiyear deal means Premiere now has volume or output arrangements with all of the Hollywood majors. This is significant in that at this time last year Sony, along with the Walt Disney Co. and Warner Bros. Pictures, was floating the idea of abandoning Premiere in order to set up their own pay TV platform in Germany. At that time, Premiere was struggling to survive after parent company KirchGroup filed for insolvency. A year later, this final studio output deal basically secures the vast majority of major Hollywood movies for Premiere. »

Barrymore takes 'Date' with D'Works

11 September 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Fresh off her world tour for Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Drew Barrymore is checking into Date School. The actress-producer is in negotiations to star in the DreamWorks Pictures project. No director is attached because Barbershop helmer Tim Story, who was involved, left the film to turn his attention toward the Queen Latifah starrer Taxi at 20th Century Fox. Date School centers on a woman (Barrymore) who is determined to find love but is lousy at dating. She then turns to a dating instructor for help. That part has yet to be cast. The project, written by Abby Cohn and Mark Silverstein, is being produced by Red Hour Films' Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld along with Firm Films' Beau Flynn. Nancy Juvonen, Barrymore's partner at Flower Films, also is expected to board the project as a producer. Barrymore's Angels co-star Cameron Diaz had long been courted to star in the project opposite leading men like Jim Carrey, but those deals never came to fruition. At the studio, the project is being shepherded by exec Adam Goodman. Barrymore is repped by Endeavor. »

Cameron Diaz Looks To Stay On As Top Earner

28 August 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle star Cameron Diaz is determined to stay at the top of Hollywood's earning tree after breaking all the records to become the highest paid actress in Tinseltown. The 30-year-old girlfriend of pop hunk Justin Timberlake topped the list of the highest female earners with $40 million in one year, in a new survey compiled by the 2004 Guinness World Records. She beat off stars including former number one Julia Roberts, Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman, after taking top-paid roles in movies Gangs Of New York and Shrek. And the There's Something About Mary is expected to keep up her lofty pay packet, as there's no sign of her taking a break from her hectic schedule in the near future. She is currently making Shrek 2 and will follow that with the comedy Fun With Dick And Jane. That means Diaz is likely to earn a staggering $64 million a year, which will keep her at the top of the Guinness list. In the records taken from Forbes Magazine for the year 2001/2002, Diaz is hotly followed by J.Lo who took home a healthy $39.4 million, and then Sandra Bullock, who earned $32 million. Explaining Cameron's appeal, a casting director tells British tabloid The Sun, "Most actresses fit into one mould, either kooky or serious. But Cameron can do both equally well. It makes her much more marketable and means she isn't restricted to just one kind of film. Her possibilities are endless. She's very lucky. There are few actresses who can do both sorts of movies so well." In other records, Friends star Matthew Perry took home a staggering $816,000 for an appearance on axed show Ally McBeal - making him the highest paid TV guest star. »

Barrymore Snubs Dying Father

27 August 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Sexy Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle star Drew Barrymore is refusing to see her desperately ill father - because she can't forgive the way he treated her. Drew cut all ties with 50s film star John Drew Barrymore two years ago, after a blazing row at his Malibu, California, home. More recently, the Wedding Singer babe failed to attend a court hearing to determine who would care for the ailing actor. John was wheeled into a Los Angeles mental health court to find out whether his son, Drew's half-brother John Barrymore III, could be given the responsibility of providing day-to-day care for his father. Barrymore's son understands why Drew doesn't want to play a part in her father's life, but wishes she would at least return his phone calls. He says, "I don't know if Drew knows anything about this hearing. My father is in here a lot. I have tried to contact her through her people, as I don't have a contact for her directly. I would have liked her to be here but she just does not want to get into contact now. She is her own person and she can do what she wants. My father was not very nice to her and maybe she thinks what she is doing is enough." Despite cutting emotional ties, the actress still shells out financially, paying around $48,000 a year for her father's care. »

Cameron Diaz Fearful of Topless Pictures Appearing

4 August 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood beauty Cameron Diaz has begging a Los Angeles judge to ban 11-year-old photos of her wearing only a leather basque. The Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle star wants 28 risque pictures and a sexy video of herself semi-naked banned from being published in newspapers and magazines worldwide - as the images were taken when she was just 19. Cameron, who is dating Justin Timberlake, told a Los Angeles court on Friday, "These pictures will cause me distress, embarrassment and anger." The sexy actress also fears they will damage her reputation as one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood. However photographer John Rutter insists, "She didn't express concerns about exposing her breasts. Miss Diaz wore various combinations of attire, some of which revealed her breasts. In one session she wore a leather corset covering her stomach but designed to show her breasts." The Sweetest Thing star claims she had a verbal agreement with Rutter that the pictures would only be used in artistic magazines, with an emphasis on their "artistic or visual aspects". She is also saying the photographer told her in June he would not publish the pictures if she agreed to pay him the multi-million dollar figure offered to him by the magazine. The full case will be heard this week. »
