Ranking the Award-Winning Adult Actors in 2014 Ya Adaptations

22 December 2014 10:01 AM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Thanks to the successful film adaptations of The Hunger Games franchise and The Fault In Our Stars, 2014 could be dubbed the year of the Ya. The genre of books took over the box office with other big screen takes on the first of the Divergent series, The Giver, If I Stay, and The Maze Runner.

While the primary focus on these films was the young stars that embodied the angst-ridden teens of the books, every one of these movies was supported by an award-winning adult actor. Even Meryl Streep got into the Ya game, adding pedigree to The Giver, which starred budding star Brenton Thwaites.

But how did Streep compare to Julianne Moore, who stepped into the role of President Coin in the third Hunger Games film, or to Kate Winslet, who portrayed the villain in the first installment of Divergent? We ranked all of the 2014 film performances based on who used their Oscar prowess to maximum »

19 December 2014 6:43 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Back in May when Star Wars: The Force Awakens started filming, director J.J. Abrams announced the "Force for Change" campaign, which invited fans to donate to support Unicef in exchange for prizes and even a chance to have a cameo in the movie.  The winner of the cameo was announced in August, but even if you didn't win, you still helped raised over $5 million dollars to support Unicef programs.  And for that, Abrams, producer Kathleen Kennedy, crew members, R2-D2, and Chewbacca say "Thank you."  I suppose C-3P0 was off somewhere being an ungrateful jerk, whining about something or other.  Fucking Threepio. Two royal couples were courtside for the Brooklyn Nets game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night. Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, took in the game as part of their whirlwind visit to the East Coast, and met up with Jay Z and Beyonce in the process.

The royal couple met hip-hop's top twosome at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. Jay Z, who recently expanded his Roc Nation management company into athletics, was instrumental in moving the former New Jersey Nets to Brooklyn and building the team's new arena in his hometown borough.

7. I spy Mickey Mouse and friends!

In the opening scene when Ariel's father King Triton arrives at the arena, you can briefly see Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck in the crowd of sea-people. Don't blink because you might miss them!

6."Part of Your World" was almost cut from the movie.

Ariel almost lost her big solo number after the song didn't test well with children in early screenings. Thankfully, another screening was set up and was a greater success with an adult audience. Could you imagine the film without that song?

Maleficent Blu-Ray Review

Maleficent Blu-Ray Review

You may think you know the story of Sleeping Beauty, but Maleficent dares to opt for changing your mind about that. The story starts long before you imagined, with a young fairy who meets a young human thief. By way of impressive visuals, and surprisingly “normal” events, young Maleficent and Stefan become the best of friends. When Maleficent comes of age, she becomes the protector of her magical forest, which means when the King comes calling, and doesn’t fare well, she is the target of his rage. A now very ambitious Stefan sees an opportunity.

This naturally leads to a great betrayal, and Stefan becoming King. This gives us the opening to sell us the story that Maleficent isn’t just the evil witch who comes to curse Aurora, but is instead the largely justified, though perhaps overzealous, wronged fairy looking to exact revenge.

As Quentin Tarantino readies his next film, the Western The Hateful Eight, to start production in January, The Weinstein Company has now given us some fascinating info regarding the film.  In addition to unveiling the official The Hateful Eight synopsis, the full cast list confirms last night’s news that Channing Tatum has a role in the film, and also reveals that Demian Bichir (A Better Life) has signed on to play the part of “Bob”.  While a synopsis previously hit when the script leaked and Tarantino staged a live-read of the script, he has crafted a new third act for the film during revisions, and this synopsis goes into a bit more detail about the plot.  The basic logline remains, as The Hateful Eight takes place some time after the Civil War and revolves around passengers on a stagecoach hurtling through the wintry Wyoming landscape. Filming Begins on London Has Fallen Starring Gerard Butler; First Synopsis Revealed

4 November 2014 10:31 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I'm still bitter that when it came to last year's "Battle of the Die Hard-in-the-White House" movies, the crown went to Olympus Has Fallen over the vastly superior White House Down.  But so it goes, and we will be treated to yet another installment of Gerard Butler's Secret Service Agent Mike Banning taking down baddies.  Millennium Films has sent out a press release announcing that filming has commenced on London Has Fallen, which sees Banning accompanying the U.S. President (Aaron Eckhart) and Speaker of the House (Morgan Freeman) to attend the funeral of the British prime minister.  The press release also includes the first official plot synopsis, and this is my favorite part: "a deadly plot to kill the world's most powerful leaders, devastate every known landmark in the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future."  All those unknown landmarks?  Totally safe. Hit the jump for the press release. »
