I watched this film because I noted that it was Australian, and that it had some very good actors in it. I was so disappointed in it! It showed the worst of Australia. It just came across as one horrible dole bludger in particular (Teesh) who didn't care about anyone else, was a bad mum, an insensitive and inconsiderate housemate, and a cow of a girlfriend.
Trude came across as slightly more likable, she attempted to do the right thing, wanted to try to keep the house tidy and the cupboards full. Teesh just seemed to be a taker, and Trude a giver.
Trude's boyfriend was a jerk, who should not have been in responsibility of others, as he couldn't be bothered to ensure that supplies were correct, or that the work was being done - he was much happier nicking off to have a beer or a quickie (if it was on offer). He openly cracked onto a friend of Trude's in front of her, and gave Trude a pair of underwear that appeared to have come from another woman. For some reason, she put up with this.
Teesh didn't seem to want to better herself at all. Her son, whose age was not clear to me, was still sleeping in a cot. She gave him sleeping tablets to shut him up so she could watch TV in peace. What kind of mother does that? Trude wanted to better herself, but it seemed with the people she was associating with, it would never happen.
The movie was just depressing, it seemed like these two women lived at rock bottom, with nowhere to go, and with no probability of ever getting out of their rut. The movie seemed to be an excuse for trying to put the word "F**K" into as many sentences as humanly possible. I know that some lower class, uneducated people speak like this, but surely not to the same extent as this? The ending was quite entertaining and enjoyable, but it really didn't make up for being forced to live through the rest of the movie.
