Truly magnificent in its scope, sweeping unwittingly across many classical film genres with each episodic masterpiece exuding exquisite charm.
It's up there with the "Greats" – 2001, The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, etc.
With no disrespect Tony Barnes' direction, one can only imagine what Kubrick, Scorsese or even Spielberg would have made of the material: Bob De Niro's Sid to Al Pacino's Baz? I leave it to your imagination.
Gorgeously smutty, yet ethereally wistful, it's a modern-day classic – the stuff of legend.
Perhaps a sequel is in the offing? May I suggest a working title? Sidney Smutter And The Helmet of Tyneside.
