Fox Unveils Two New Promos for Sleepy Hollow

20 May 2013 1:46 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Am I alone in thinking Fox's upcoming new take on "Sleepy Hollow" looks like a helluva lot of fun? Check out these two new promos for the show, and let us know what you think!

"Sleepy Hollow" will air Monday nights on Fox at 9Pm.

"Sleepy Hollow"

What if you suddenly woke up from the throes of death 250 years in the future to find the world is on the brink of destruction, caused by unimaginable events, and you are humanity’s last hope? Welcome to "Sleepy Hollow," the thrilling new mystery-adventure drama from co-creators/executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek and Transformers franchises, “Fringe”). In this modern-day retelling of Washington Irving’s classic, Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to unravel a mystery that dates all the way back to the founding fathers. »

Fox 2013-2014 Full Schedule Preview With Trailers And Images

14 May 2013 10:12 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.

Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.

Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

©2013 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Fox

On Monday Fox unveiled their primetime slate for the 2013-2014 television season to the national advertising community during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. The network announced 5 new comedies, 4 new dramas, a first event series, and an animated comedy from Seth MacFarlane.

Some of today’s most inventive directors working in film have smoothly segued from motion pictures to series TV and their new shows have found a home at Fox. What caught my attention were the sci-fi, fantasy shows bearing the names of Abrams, Shyamalan, Kurtzman and Orci.

Among the network’s lineup is M. Night Shyamalan’s new event series Wayward Pines. Set to premiere in 2014 and based on the best-selling novel, “Pines,” by Blake Crouch, Wayward Pines is an intense, mind-bending thriller in which nothing is what it seems. Also on the Fox schedule is the »

It appears that Sleepy Hollow will premiere early fall on Mondays at 9, following Bones at 8. After an initial run of Bones episodes, Almost Human will take the Mondays at 8 slot, in “late fall”.

But Oh The Trailers.

Box Office: Why Did People Stay Away From Tyler Perry's 'Peeples'?

12 May 2013 11:05 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

On paper, "Tyler Perry Presents Peeples" should have done decent business this weekend. Even though he didn't write or direct it, the meet-the-parents comedy had Perry's name on it as producer and promoter. It features two popular TV stars, Craig Robinson and Kerry Washington, in the leads. It's a movie that caters to older women and comedy fans at a time of year (summer superhero season) when both are underserved. It opened on Mother's Day weekend, a good time to catch the family business that Perry targets so effectively. Most of all, as a movie with an all-African-American cast, it seemed like smart counterprogramming to "The Great Gatsby," a movie about white people throwing parties. Perry movies typically open at around $20 million. Pundits predicted "Peeples" would earn at least half that. Instead, it debuted in fourth place, with a meager $4.9 million in estimated sales. It's Perry's weakest opening ever (eclipsing "Daddy's Little Girls, »

David Alan Grier and S. Epatha Merkerson Talk Peeples, Playing Against Type, In Living Color, and More

12 May 2013 8:00 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The Tyler Perry name-brand provokes an impulsive knee jerk response. Either you’re on the bandwagon or you’re vehemently against. This Friday’s Peeples presents quite the conundrum for the Perry-less faction of viewers. While the film sports Perry’s name on the one sheet, the man didn’t direct the film instead serving as producer. The credit here belongs to Tina Gordon Chism, the writer behind the much-better-than they-ought to-be Drumline and Atl. Peeples – her first stab as writer/director – is no exception to this norm. I’ll admit a certain amount of trepidation before the lights dimmed; but within the first reel, I was quickly won over by the film’s quick and gentle wit. Much of the film’s merit can be laid onto its game cast – in particular David Alan Grier (In Living Color)and S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order) as the patri/matri-arch to potential son-in-law Craig Robinson. »

Tina: I'm slow, she's fast. Stephanie: You're kinda Country Mouse. Tina: I'm total Country Mouse. This is how it goes. Even if we're getting it done, my demeanor is slower and yours is faster. Kerry Washington and Craig Robinson talk 'Peeples,' Tyler Perry and more

9 May 2013 5:20 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

In "Tyler Perry Presents Peeples," first time director Tina Gordon Chism takes the reigns, with Tyler Perry taking on the role of producer. The movie stars Craig Robinson ("The Office") as a man who heads to the Hamptons, trying to impress the far-too-perfect family of his girlfriend (Kerry Washington), headed by a federal judge (David Alan Grier).

It's a new turf for Perry, who writes and directs most movies that have his name attached to them. However, it's also a new world for Chism, who hadn't written comedy before "Peeples." Her previous credits include the screenplays for "Drumline" and "Atl." As with most creative ideas, though, the story of "Peeples" is rooted in a previous experience.

"The setup for [the movie] was personal," Chism says, "I was dating a guy who's really perfect, and then I went home to his family who's really, really perfect. And I thought 'How am I ever going to fit in? »

'Peeples' review: Craig Robinson and David Alan Grier head African-American 'Meet the Parents'

9 May 2013 6:00 AM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

"Peeples" is an African-American "Meet the Parents" that slips funnyman Craig Robinson into the Ben Stiller role. Casting the musically minded Robinson in this formula comedy about screwing up your first encounter with your potential in-laws is like replacing Stiller's Greg Focker with Jack Black.

Yeah, that might work. And here, formulaic or not, it's funny.

Robinson plays Wade, an entertainer for kids who sings songs about learning to "use your words" and not pee your pants. How he ended up with stunning U.N. lawyer Grace (Kerry Washington) takes a bit of imagination.

Until you meet her parents. Not that she's anxious to let Wade meet "the Chocolate Kennedys." She does her family weekends in Sag Harbor without her live-in lover.

But Wade, egged on by his "doll doctor" brother (Malcolm Barrett, hilarious) decides to follow her to the Hamptons and surprise her and her folks with a proposal. »

Bad News For Tyler Perry

8 May 2013 11:12 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

The people of "Peeples" make a better impression than most collections of oddballs in the weary mold of comedies centered on meeting the prospective in-laws.

They still overstay their welcome, though.

With a long, boring buildup that finally pays off with scattered laughs in the second half, "Peeples" also manages to leave a better impression than the "Tyler Perry Presents" tag on the posters might imply. This is broad comedy, but nowhere near as broad – or boorish and shrill – as producer Perry's own family adventures (for disclosure's sake, there are screechy relations here, but Perry's Madea fortunately isn't among them).

Craig Robinson moves up from caustic supporting player on "The Office" to show himself an engaging romantic lead in the chubby, lovable, gregarious Jack Black school, while Kerry Washington lightens up from heavier drama as the love of his life, a daddy's girl whose daddy, naturally, doesn't approve.

'Avatar 2' and '3' Expected to Shoot at the Same Time

Zoe Saldana is doing the press rounds for Star Trek into Darkness and stopped by "The Jonathan Ross Show" (via) where she was, inevitably, asked about Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, which are expected to take audiences back to Pandora beginning in late 2015. Saldana confirmed expectations that the two films would shoot at the same time saying, "They're doing a part two and a part three and they're probably going to shoot it at the same time. Because if we just do two and then wait, I'll probably be 45 or 50 years old by the time we get to part three." About a month ago the films were briefly the topic of conversation once again when producer Jon Landau addressed the progress of the two films saying, "We have kept a team of digital artists on from Avatar in order to test how we can create performance capture underwater. We could simulate water in computer graphics, »

Craig Robinson Meets the Parents in New 'Peeples' Trailer

Tyler Perry is off to a strong start in 2013 with Temptations of a Marriage Counselor. Despite continued backlash from critics, his films continue to produce respectable box office numbers, at least, respectable enough to allow him to keep making movies. Perry takes on the producer role in next month's romantic comedy Peeples. The film stars Craig Robinson as a man who surprises his girlfriend (Kerry Washington) at a family reunion in the Hamptons. While Perry hands the writing and directing duties to Drumline's Tina Gordon Chism, the usual Perry movie clichés are bound to appear.
