Trivia

The original killer dog "Jake" was hired without a rehearsal and sight unseen because Eli Roth loved the idea of using the dog in the Patrick Swayze movie Black Dog (1998) and there by being only "two degrees from Swayze". The problem was the dog was by then 4 years older, arthritic, and tired. After a full day of shooting, and if all the few second bits were spliced expertly together, they only had about a minute or so of usage footage. All dog scenes had to be re-shot with a new dog. With no time or money to find a replacement, the producers cast a real police attack dog that was so vicious and unpredictable no actors could appear with it on camera. The crew would hide behind trucks during its scenes, and cameras were operated by remote control. See more »

Goofs

Justin (Grim) is clearly seen tying his dog to a tree when he meets the main characters at the bonfire. It was thought that when he leaves he just calls his dog and walks away, however you can still see him crouching by his tied up dog as the camera pans away. See more »

Very Gore With Potential of Cult-Movie
10 July 2005 | by (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) – See all my reviews

The college friends Paul (Rider Strong), Karen (Jordan Ladd), Bert (James DeBello), Marcy (Cerina Vincent) and Jeff (Joey Kern) rent an isolated cabin in the woods to spend a week together. When they arrive, a man contaminated with a weird disease asks for help to them, but they get in panic and burn the man, who falls in the water reservoir and dies. The whole group, except Karen, makes a pact of drinking only beer along the week without knowing where the dead body is. When Karen drinks tap water and gets the disease, the group begins their journey to hell.

"Cabin Fever" is a collection of clichés and parts of horror movies ("Evil Dead", "Outbreak", "The Night of the Living Dead" – the remake, "Braindead" etc.) that works very well. There is lots of gore, impressive special effects and this movie has potential to become cult. In the cover of the Brazilian DVD, there is a reference to Peter Jackson, who seems to have liked this movie too. My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "Cabana do Inferno" ("Cabin of the Hell")

Note: on 27 March 2015, I saw this movie again.
