Morning Meme: Anderson Cooper Counts Down, Michael Musto Reviews, and a Naughty Physics Lesson from Brian Cox

28 December 2011 5:26 AM, PST | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Prince Phillip has been released from the hospital after undergoing a balloon procedure to remove a heart blockage. I do understand his wife is the queen, but watching from afar, it seemed so strange when he went to the hospital alone, then the Queen visited him. I'm sure it would be the same with any head-of-state, but from a human level, it seemed odd.

I really had no idea where the concept of "proof" for alcohol came from. I certainly never understood that it involved gunpowder.

I'm going to agree with Queerty: Tla Video trying to sell gay videos by wondering "What Would Jerry Sandusky Watch?" is completely reprehensible. Children were allegedly raped, and they want to sell DVDs about incest, or gay films with "boy" in the title?

Christina Hendricks in Talks to Join Elle Fanning in Sally Potter’s ‘Bomb’

27 December 2011 3:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

[1] Although Christina Hendricks has played modern or even futuristic [2] characters throughout her career, there's no question that she's best known for her portrayal of '60s office manager Joan Harris (née Holloway) on Mad Men. Perhaps that success is why she's in talks to return to the era for Sally Potter's period film Bomb, where she'll star alongside Elle Fanning, Alessandro Nivola, and Alice Englert. Annette Bening is said to be circling a role in the project as well. More details after the jump. The Daily Mail [3] broke the news of Hendricks' casting earlier this week. Potter's film centers around two teenage rebels involved with the anti-nuclear movement in 1960s London, against the backdrop of the Cold War and the sexual revolution. Fanning will star as Ginger, the brainier one of the two girls, while Englert (daughter of director Jane Campion) is signed on to play boy-crazy Rosa. Nivola »

Christina Hendricks Steps Back Into the 60s for ‘Bomb’

26 December 2011 3:42 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Some actors worry about keeping strict control over how the world perceives them and making sure that they don’t get typecast, but Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks seems to think that if you look that good dressed up in the garb of the period, why not follow up your head turning, 60s-set breakout performance with another role steeped in the same decade? To that end, she has accepted a role in director Sally Potter’s upcoming anti-nuke movie Bomb, which tells the tale of a couple of teenage girls who become part of the Ban the Bomb movement and also learn a little bit about free love and their own blossoming sexuality along the way. There isn’t yet any word on what role Hendricks will play in the film, but she joins a cast that already includes Elle Fanning and Alice Englert as the main girls, and is also rumored to soon pick up names »

The Avengers will be post-converted to 3D (and why it could actually work)

22 December 2011 8:22 PM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Walt Disney Studios has announced that The Avengers will be released in 3D, when previous reports have stated that it would be released in 2D only. However, what would initially seem to be a questionably last-minute bit of mind-changing in fact turns out to have been a deliberate strategy.

As Joblo.com reports, “While it’s only now being formally announced, Whedon knew from the very beginning his film would eventually be converted to 3D saying he thought about the format “every second” while filming…Whedon says he was 100% behind the idea.”

To quote another superheroic movie franchise, “It’s all part of the plan…”

Filming an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing without anyone knowing; secretly having 3D in mind the whole time while filming The Avengers: Joss Whedon’s almost as good at springing surprising plot twists on us in real life as in his stories. »

Alicia Silverstone in Suburgatory

Alicia Silverstone in Suburgatory

The ABC series, Suburgatory, is about to showcase a moment for TV history. There will be a Clueless reunion on the set. That means Alicia Silverstone and Jeremy Sisto will share the screen once again. That’s like awesome. As if!

Suburgatory began in September and has a somewhat similar theme to, say, Everwood. The series follows a single dad, acted by Law & Order‘s Sisto. He moves from New York City to the suburbs after discovering an unopened box of condoms in his 15 year-old daughter’s drawer. Once they arrive in their new neighborhood however, things aren’t so perfect.

According to the TV Line newsflash, Alicia Silverstone is en route to Sisto’s neck of the woods. She will be a guest star for a multi-episode arc and has a chance at being Sisto’s potential love interest. Totally! The two first shared the screen in the film, »

UKTV’s Dave have announced what they’re calling their “biggest import of 2012″ – Us drama, Suits. This all new American drama focuses on Michael ‘Mike’ Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a lazy but brilliant college dropout with a photographic memory. On the run from a drug deal gone bad, Mike accidentally slips into a job interview with one of New York City’s best lawyers, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). Tired of cookie-cutter law school grads, suave quick-witted businessman Harvey takes a gamble by hiring Mike on the spot, despite the firm’s policy of hiring only Harvard Law graduates.

Proving to be an irrepressible duo and invaluable to the practice, Mike and Harvey must keep their secret from everyone including managing partner Jessica (Firefly’s Gina Torres) and Harvey’s arch nemesis Louis (Rick Hoffman), who seems intent on making Mike’s life as difficult as possible.

Nathan Fillion teases 'Firefly': Could Netflix bring it back?

14 December 2011 11:07 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

While perusing Nathan Fillion's Twitter feed, as any woman in her right mind is wont to do, we came across a particular Tweet that is making geek hearts explode all over the internet. It read, "Hmm Hmmmmm Hmmmmmm tiny.cc/wnba9."  That magical link takes you to a blog by comic book writer (and all around cool guy) Marc Bernardin called, "Could Netflix Bring Firefly Back From the Dead?"

Oh my dear and fluffy lord, would that it were true! (And yes, that is from "Serenity," the film that is essentially the second season of "Firefly.") Bernardin suggests in his article that Netflix, which has resurrected "Arrested Development" and plans to make more episodes, might be able to do the same for "Firefly."

As Bernardin states in his blog, Syfy has already looked at the possibilities and decided the budget wouldn't work. Fox has the rights. The "Arrested Development" deal, »

Schrodinger's Spoilers: How the Cabin in the Woods trailer redefines spoilers, but spoils nothing

8 December 2011 9:16 PM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Hot on the heels of the recent, tantalising meta-textual poster for Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods, Universal released the much anticipated first trailer for the film earlier this week. On first glance, it appears to be like every other conventional horror movie trailer…until it stabs you in the…wherever expectations are, and bombards you with startling plot twists like flying eyeballs.

But are they really spoilers?

Well, they would be for any normal film, but this is not a normal film.

The brainchild of expectation-subverting genius Joss Whedon (otherwise known as Joss “Subverts Expectations” Whedon) and his protégé Drew Goddard, the long-delayed The Cabin in the Woods has been talked about for years for its originality, genre-deconstructy-ness, and preponderance of twists; as Joss decribes the film, it's “the horror movie to end all horror movies”.

It's the film that’s set to be as twisty as a pretzel. »

Blu-ray Review: Darkly Hysterical ‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’

6 December 2011 2:01 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Eli Craig’s debut is a smart, funny horror movie, which means it will have a Huge shelf life on Blu-ray and DVD. This is the kind of piece that gets passed around via word of mouth and Facebook recommendations. It fell relatively flat at the box office, but gory horror movies like this one were meant to be watched at home or in dorm rooms where I expect this film will take off over the next few years. See the future cult hit now.

Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0

“Tucker & Dale vs. Evil” is a spoof of the “redneck horror movie.” You know the kind, movies like “Cabin Fever” that play off hillbilly horror fears of the deadly people in the woods about to kill sweet, young suburbanites who take the wrong exit off the freeway. “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil” spins those archetypes – the suburbanite’s fear of a man who lives in a cabin, »

Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Trailer Unleashed!

The trailer for Joss Whedon's long-delayed The Cabin in the Woods has finally hit the web. And as you might guess by the title, it features a bunch of beautiful young people heading out to a far-flung vacation retreat only to find their lives in danger from an unknown evil. So what can we expect? While it's not the most original of plots, the fact this horror flick comes from the mind of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly creator has to count for something, right?  After all, we see what appears to be a creature rising from a dark lake, a force field surrounding the woods, some masked baddies and a cabin that's obviously not what it seems. Cabin, which Whedon directed from a »

Tonight on Homeland: Photos from Representative Brody

Tonight on Homeland Brody is approached to make a run for a seat in government office during a special election after a disgraced politician is forced to leave office. We learned last week that should he decide to accept a run for office, it would signal to Nazir he was moving forward with his part in a terrorist act against the United States of America.

Brody asks to speak with Carrie, but the previews gave no hint as to why. We're still unsure on Brody's position with regard to his loyalty to his country or his captors. Were those who held him hostage able to turn him against America through his relationship with Abu Nzir, or is he playing against them as a way to save his own family and Homeland?

Whedon Wields His New Weirdly Wonky One-Sheet For The Cabin in the Woods

2 December 2011 | Horror Asylum | See recent Horror Asylum news »

Maybe it's the fact that it's a Joss Whedon ('Firefly', 'The Avengers') project. Perhaps it's due to the anticipation of seeing a movie that has struggled getting to theatres for so long now. Heck, it might just be due to an appearance from Amy Acker. Whatever the reason I'm extremely excited over the prospect of finally seeing the Drew Goddard ('Cloverfield') helmed horror flick 'The Cabin In The Woods'. The Joss Whedon produced and co-written project will finally see the light of day next April and my interest levels, if they hadn't peaked already, have been overloaded by the reveal of a fantastic new one-sheet which features a suspended cabin twisted around like a wooden Rubik's cube with the teasing tagline below reading 'You think you know the story.' It doesn't get more intriguing than that! The cabin-based horror stars the »
