Exclusive: John Legend Explains Passionate Speech at PGAs: 'I Want to Speak Out'
John Legend had a somber moment when he took the stage at the 28th Annual Producers Guild Awards on Saturday night, and addressed President Donald Trump's immigration ban.

"Our vision of America is directly antithetical to that of President Trump," the 38-year-old R&B artist declared. "I want to specifically tonight reject his vision and affirm that America has to be better than that."

"Los Angeles is the home of so many immigrants, so many creative people, so many dreamers," he continued. "Our America is big, it is free, and it is open to dreamers of all races, all countries, all religions."

John Legend Reacts to Trump's Refugee Ban:
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend continued to flaunt their enviable romance when they popped up at the Producers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills on Saturday night. John kissed Chrissy on the cheek on the red carpet before stepping aside and letting Chrissy have her moment in the spotlight. Once inside, John took the stage to introduce La La Land, but before that, he responded to Donald Trump's ban on refugees, saying, "I won't pretend that La La Land is a political film, but I do want to take a second to talk about what's happening in our country right now. This is a film about love, about dreams and about this lovely city we call home, Los Angeles, California." U.S. Filmmaking on the Rise in Cuba After Diplomatic Relations Improve

U.S. Filmmaking on the Rise in Cuba After Diplomatic Relations Improve
Now that the U.S. and Cuba have confirmed the official opening of their respective embassies this month, interest in Cuba continues to mount, not just among U.S. filmmakers, but also among producers from Latin America and Europe.

“Ever since both countries announced the thaw in their relations, more film and TV producers from the U.S., Latin America and Europe have been making inquiries and visiting Havana to explore and, in some cases, begin developing their projects here,” said Lia Rodriguez, the Havana Film Festival’s industry department head. A Spanish-German miniseries, “Vientos de Cuaresma,” is currently shooting in Havana.

Some American filmmakers have managed to make their feature films in Cuba, despite current restrictions, by including documentary footage and reenactments to qualify. To date, only U.S. docs are allowed to shoot in Cuba.

The first such U.S. film to hit the bigscreen is Rhode Islander

Lisa Ling’s Own Documentary Series ‘Our America’ To End Run After 5 Seasons

Own said today that the upcoming fifth season of documentary series Our America With Lisa Ling will be its last. The cancellation is a significant because of Our America‘s place in Own’s history. Premiering in February 2011, Our America was part of the network’s inaugural slate of unscripted series aimed at empowering women and helping them better their lives. It was the only show of the bunch not hosted by Winfrey to draw a sizable audience while Own was going through major growing pains and the only one to make it that far. During Own’s dark early months of big ratings struggles, Our America carried the torch with solid ratings and critical response. Own finally scored a second hit in late 2011 with Welcome To Sweetie Pie’s, which signaled a turn to entertainment fare, often targeting black audiences. That trend was cemented by the mega-deal with Tyler Perry,

Lisa Ling Takes Another Look At “God & Gays”

Lisa Ling disappointed in two earlier looks at the “ex-gay” movement. Was the third time the charm?

In two previous episodes of Our America With Lisa Ling, journalist Ling examined the so-called “ex-gay” movement, in which lesbian, gay and bisexual people turn to Christianity in an attempt to overcome their sexuality. In the first, “Pray the Gay Away?“, I was disappointed that Ling asked the question in the first place. Asking it at all positions the Lgbt community and the “ex-gay” movement as moral equivalents. They are not.

Her second effort was also disappointing, since rather than make a fresh examination in the aftermath of her earlier episode, Ling simply repeated that episode almost in its entirety, with little new comment on its content or the reaction to it. Ling did include new interview footage with Alan Chambers, head of “ex-gay” organization Exodus International, in the wake of that group

In 2011, Season 1 of Own's Our America with Lisa Ling ran a controversial episode called "Can You Pray The Gay Away?" that featured the ex-gay movement as largely spearheaded by an organization called Exodus International. Host Lisa Ling aimed to show all sides of the issue, but GLAAD, among others, felt there was too much emphasis on Exodus, giving the harmful organization a platform that they then used to tout their authenticity. That, Lisa Ling said, was not her intention. As someone who considers herself a huge advocate for Lgbt rights, she was hoping to tell a story, and that story has only continued to unfold over the last couple of years after the episode aired.

Tonight on Own, Our America will present "God & Gays," a follow-up episode that you can watch without having seen the previous one. What's different on
