Storyline

From as far back in time as ancient Greece, man has suspected that humans evolved from other animals, as he has struggled to understand his nature and evolutionary inheritance. The Beasts Within Us provides a fascinating, animated insight into the science that shows how many of man's most distinctive features actually arose as adaptations to life in the trees. Crazy Credits

The credits are set to the tune of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", sung by Eric Idle in the film Life of Brian (1979). It starts out with a family of Australopithecus listening to the music, and continues with various animals featured in the program performing circus acts: monkeys and a brontothere do high-wire stunts, a mammoth rolls on top of a ball, and an Australopithecus sticks his head into a saber-tooth cat's mouth. All the while, the Australopithecus family walks off into the savanna, snapping their fingers to the tune of the song. See more »

Better than the show itself
2 December 2002 | by (New York, NY) – See all my reviews

This documentary takes a look at mankind's origins, and its eventual effect on the world around it. The documentary actually surpasses the two episodes of Walking With Prehistoric Beasts that it represents. Look out for the hilariously satiric ending when the narrator wonders if we'd be able to handle a gigantic meteor as the dinosaurs did - all set to Eric Idle's singing of "Bright Side of Life" from Life of Brian.
