Eddie wants to dump his girlfriend Elaine. He knows he'll be weak and not do it so he rehearses in a café with his friend Beth. Over the course of the next few weeks the role playing gets confused not just for the nosy staff but also for Eddie and Beth themselves.Screened as part of the BBC2 compilation of shorts entitled `Ways to leave your lover' this was the final short of the series and probably the most optimistic. The short sees a man rehearse with a friend ways to leave his lover, meanwhile two waitresses try to work out from snippets of their conversations what is going on between. It is amusing for the most part but I did find the waitresses to be an intrusion to the film rather than complimenting it like their bits took me away from the main two.The ending is a happy one of course, with a little twist for good measure. If I thought about this film for two long or tried to watch it again, I'd probably like it less because all it's flaws would come out. However the first time it is light and energetic enough to get by and the mush is kind of set to one side for the most part. The two leads are quite good and have a reasonable chemistry. There are some funny lines but the best ones come in the first few minutes `no, she's no good', being my favourite! Overall a passable little short. Cool title, bright and breezy production I'll forget I ever saw it in 10 minutes time but it was enjoyable when it was on.
