El-Aasar by Samir Habchi may be one of the few very good Lebanese films. The way Habchi presents the war is what makes this film unique, Habchi shows us Lebanon stuck in horrible war no one understand, the subject is treated in an absurd way, the characters act without understanding their acts, the images are surreel, like the fabulous finale were the main character shoot the sky and get a drop of blood on the face. One particular scene is putting one character in a very ridiculous situation, were she is the only survivor of a massacre and is dancing with the flag around the bodies, showing us how the war is plain stupid. This film is a must see, if you can find a copy of it somewhere, do not miss it! We're still hoping that Habchi will get the financing of his new film one day!
