Zeta-Jones Stays Silent Over Troubled Former Love

30 December 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood rose Catherine Zeta-Jones has refused to come to the aid of a former flame. The Chicago beauty was asked by British television executives to appear in a documentary as a character witness for a former partner who has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault. Zeta-Jones dated British television personality John Leslie from 1990 to 1992, but has refused point blank to appear in the shelved documentary. Leslie was arrested in November following allegations of a serious sexual assault and has protested his innocence throughout. A friend says, "She obviously doesn't want to get involved in something as public as a TV program." London based Zig Zag productions hoped to make a program in which several of Leslie's former female colleagues and lovers would speak up for him and dispel claims he is a sexual predator. However it looks likely that the whole project will now be shelved. A source says, "We spoke to Catherine Zeta-Jones' people and they said no straight away. I don't think we even got halfway through putting the proposition to them before they said no. The request was not even followed up as it was so clear she was not going to appear on the show in any shape or form. So now the show has been put on the shelf and it doesn't look like it will ever be taken off." »

Latifah: I Once Had Sex For Cash

24 December 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Rapper Queen Latifah has a shocking element of her past she deeply regrets - she once had sex for money as a teen. The 32-year-old hip-hop star, who received a Golden Globe nomination for her appearance in the upcoming musical Chicago, admits that it was one of the biggest mistakes she'd ever made. She says, "I tried having sex for money once, when I was 16. It was not in a prostitution sort of way but with an older man I was seeing. After, I felt nasty and ugly. It hurts to admit you screwed up, but you need to do that in order to move on." »

Renee Dreads Aussie Spread

18 December 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

American Renee Zellweger is dreading a trip Down Under for the Australasian premiere of new film Chicago - because the last time she went there she ballooned in size. The Bridget Jones's Diary star admits she's a huge fan of the Australian lifestyle, and she let it go to her stomach. She says, "I was 17 and I went there for a long break and when my brother came to pick me up at the airport he didn't recognize me. His first words to me were, 'I guess the food was good!'" Meanwhile, the Texan actress has hit back at comments made recently by Sir Elton John that she's too thin. Renee insists a recent bout of food poisoning in Romania, where she has been filming Cold Mountain, made her look painfully thin, but now she's healthy again. She rants, "I can't control what people think and he's gonna say that and it's going to be read by however many millions of people and I can't meet all those people and explain the circumstances about my life. I've been running up and down mountains in Transylvania for six months, herding cattle and building fences and I ended up with really bad food poisoning because I was dumb enough to eat the chicken salad after it had been sitting out on the table for eight hours." »

Renee Sick on Empty Stomach

11 December 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Renee Zellweger was taken ill at the aftershow party for her new film Chicago, and people close to the super slim actress where heard blaming her condition on the fact she hadn't eaten all day. The post-screening event took place in London's West End on Sunday evening and these latest revelations raise even more questions about her eating habits. Although she appeared to be in high spirits earlier on, cuddling up and joking with co-star Richard Gere, the 33-year-old star of Bridget Jones's Diary was looking "deeply distressed" in the women's toilets at the Cafe Royal at around 11pm. A member of Renee's entourage was overheard whispering, "She hasn't eaten all day. She was being sick and all that was coming up was stuff from the bottom of her stomach. We've got to get her home." According to a spokesperson for filmmakers Buena Vista, however, her rapid departure from the party was in fact due to a lack of sleep saying, "Renee wasn't sick as far as I am aware. If she was looking distressed it would have been because she was absolutely exhausted. She has been really, really, busy." Nevertheless, much was made of the star's wafer thin figure, with one guest at the glitzy premiere saying, "She was so skinny, she made co-star Catherine Zeta-Jones look fat." »

27 November 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger are launching an all-out assault on the pop charts. The sexy actresses star together in the forthcoming big screen version of hit musical Chicago, and have impressed critics with their vocal performances. The pair have now recorded a song called "Moving On," which will play as the film's credits roll, and according to insiders, Zeta-Jones is keen to unleash the song on the charts. One says, "Catherine has always fancied herself as a pop star and not unreasonably she sees this as a perfect opportunity to have another bash at getting a hit single. She can certainly sing, but whether that's enough to get her a hit, well, we'll see." As a youngster, Zeta-Jones was in a girl band and once had a top 40 hit with a song called "For All Time." »

Catherine Steps in as Renee's Inspiration

7 November 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Renee Zellweger was staggered by Chicago co-star Catherine Zeta-Jones' talents on the set of the new movie musical - and her abilities to walk down flights of stairs in heels. The Jerry Maguire star admits she felt like "a little mouse" on her first day on the set as she watched the Welsh actress "belt" out "All That Jazz." She says, "I was just dumbfounded. My jaw dropped to the floor. I didn't speak for 30 minutes. I just sat in the corner in awe and watched. She belts it out. It's resounding. I'm like a little field mouse compared with her: 'Squeak, squeak, squueak.' It was beautiful." Zellweger admits Zeta-Jones also taught her how to dance in the movie - and impressed her with staircase scenes. The actress adds, "I have newfound respect for every beauty contestant who has ever walked down a staircase in heels without looking. By the grace of God, we made it to the bottom of those stairs." »

Weinstein to fill marketing void left by Gill's exit

16 October 2002 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

NEW YORK -- In the wake of Miramax Films Los Angeles president Mark Gill's decision to step down Tuesday, the mini-major said co-topper Harvey Weinstein will be "personally involved in marketing upcoming releases," including such high-profile year-end projects as Gangs of New York, Chicago, Frida, Pinocchio and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. The company added that senior vp marketing Jason Cassidy will work closely with Weinstein on managing the transition. Said Weinstein: "We have the highest respect for Mark's skills and abilities. Mark has been a valuable part of Miramax's marketing efforts over the past eight years while making important contributions on various acquisitions and in fostering the production of Frida. " Gill's departure comes as Miramax is about to plunge into Oscar season, during which the company customarily expends extraordinary energy on promoting its leading releases. The departure also follows several recent exits at the company that have thinned out its marketing and publicity ranks. The company also has recently seen several lower-level departures in the production and development areas. »

Zeta-Jones and Douglas Expecting Again

15 October 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

There's going to be a bit more traffic around the house . Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are expecting their second child next spring, according to news reports. The 33 year-old Zeta-Jones, who will be seen in Chicago this Christmas, gave birth to the couple's first child, son Dylan Michael Douglas, in August 2000. In an unorthodox but philanthropic move, Douglas and Zeta-Jones asked that in lieu of gifts for their November 2000 wedding that guests donate money to the Dylan Michael Douglas fund, a charitable foundation that Dylan will oversee when he turns 21; no word yet on if the latest arrival will have a similar set-up. Douglas, 58, most recently completed A Few Good Years with his father, Kirk Douglas, for director Fred Schepisi; the film is expected to be released in early 2003. --Prepared by IMDb staff »

Gere's Musical Passions In Chicago

3 April 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Richard Gere is loving every minute of making his new movie Chicago - because it gives him the chance to indulge his musical side. The screen icon is starring in the big screen adaptation of the stage musical and says he's enjoying the chance to express himself. He says, "I haven't done a musical since I was a kid in New York ... and that was rock band stuff. Probably the last time I sang was in The Cotton Club. But I'd never done this kind of Broadway thing. It demands a big Broadway kind of singing, so I have a singing coach and I'm dancing in it, and these beautiful girls are moving me around. And I have a big tap-dance number at the end." The new movie also stars Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and is directed by Rob Marshall. Gere adds, "I think I'm going to be all right in the film, but it's the two leads who are so terrific. Renee is Roxie and she brings out a heartbreaking quality to all this. I used to think this show was a cold, conceptual piece, but she does things in a way that just rips your heart." »

Douglas And Zeta-Jones Get Sexy Help From Cattrall

1 March 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have become the latest stars to get a sexual boost from alluring actress Kim Cattrall. Douglas recently flew into Toronto to visit his beautiful wife, who was in Canada shooting her new movie Chicago. While there, he learned that Sex And The City bombshell Kim was in town signing copies of her new sex manual, Satisfaction: The Art Of The Female Orgasm. The star drove over and had Kim autograph and copy for Catherine - who is a huge Sex And The City fan. Kim recommended that he get one himself too, explaining it can help men just as much as women. He took her advice - and then picked up a dozen more copies for pals. Pop virgin Britney Spears was also recently spotted purchasing a copy of the fast-selling tome. »
