AFM: Willem Dafoe Joins Nicolas Cage in ‘Dog Eat Dog’

Willem Dafoe has joined Nicolas Cage in thriller “Dog Eat Dog, directed by Paul Schrader for Arclight Films and Pure Dopamine.

Dog Eat Dog” is based on the book of the same name by Eddie Bunker. Matt Wilder and Schrader adapted the script about a trio of  ex-cons, deep in the underbelly of Los Angeles, who are hired for a kidnapping. When the botched abduction goes awry and gets completely out of control, the cons find themselves on the run.

Production has started in Cleveland. Mark Earl Burman of Pure Dopamine is producing. Executive producers are Gary Hamilton, Don Rivers, Tim Peternel, Shaun Redick and Ray Mansfield.

Arclight Films is handling international sales at the American Film Market. The producers introduced the project with Cage attached at Cannes.

Schrader co-wrote Martin Scorsese films “Taxi Driver,” “Raging Bull,” “The Last Temptation of Christ” and “Bringing Out the Dead.” He also directed “American Gigolo, »

Cinema Retro Hosts Book Event For Authors Robert Crane And Christopher Fryer

Cinema Retro Lee Pfeiffer recently moderated a book signing event for authors Robert Crane and Christopher Fryer in relation to their new release "Bob Crane: Sex, Celebrity and My Father's Unsolved Murder", which has been published by the University Press of Kentucky. The event was held at The Coffee House Club, a legendary 100 year-old private venue for the arts in New York that has boasted such illustrious members as Sir Winston Churchill, Robert Benchley, Basil Rathbone and Henry Fonda. The book details the impact that the murder of "Hogan's Heroes" star Bob Crane had on his family, specifically his son Robert, who was in his early twenties when the grisly crime occurred in 1979. Bob Crane had risen to fame playing avuncular, sharp-witted "guy next door" types. He was also a highly talented musician who enjoyed moonlighting as an acclaimed drummer. Paul Schrader Gets San Francisco Film Fest Award and Tribute (Exclusive)

Veteran director and screenwriter Paul Schrader will receive the San Francisco International Film Festival's Kanbar Award for storytelling. He will be honored alongside fellow Sfiff awardees Richard Gere and Guillermo del Toro on Film Society Awards Night, which goes down Monday, April 27 at The Armony on Mission Street. Schrader's long and storied career began with writing Sidney Pollack's 1974 "The Yakuza" before Martin Scorsese's Palme d'Or winner "Taxi Driver." As a director his films have included "American Gigolo," "Affliction," "Auto Focus, "Light of Day" and more recently "The Canyons," written by Bret Easton Ellis and starring Lindsay Lohan, and "The Dying of the Light," which the director washed his hands of after losing final cut.
