Fearnet.com is partnering with Ghost House Pictures to create a new, original webseries titled Zombie Roadkill. You guessed it, it's a comedy! It'd better be, considering the plot from Fearnet's press release:
Academy-Award nominated actor Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3, Sideways, Wings) co-stars as a tough as nails Park Ranger who teams with an unsuspecting teenager, played by David Dorfman (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Ring films), to escape a cursed stretch of highway that resurrects roadkill in the form flesh eating zombie animals. This new breed of terror is not just playing dead.
Zombie Roadkill centers around a group of college kids as they are driving on an unfamiliar road. Everything seems fit for a road trip to the lake but, when the group accidentally runs over an unsuspecting squirrel, they quickly realize there will be a price to pay. The cursed road brings the zombie squirrel back »

Thomas Haden Church, former Wings regular and breakout star of 2004 film Sideways, is going after the one meidum he hasn't dabbled in yet—the internet. The 49 year-old Oscar-nominated actor has signed on to star in FEARnet's new original web series Zombie Roadkill which is set for a Spring 2010 release on the site and through its video on demand network. Henry Gayden wrote the script for the six episode horror-comedy which David Green will direct. It's the fourth project made for FEARnet from Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures, which had crafted 30 Days of Night: Blood Trails and 30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust, and Devil's Trade for the network. Aaron Lam from Ghost House will produce the series. Also announced joining the cast is teen David Dorfman known as the little boy from The Ring flicks. When "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" was announced for a summer 2011 release, fans went wild. Then the project hit rough waters following the departure of studio chief Dick Cook, a big supporter of "Pirates" star Johnny Depp. The Jack Sparrow actor subsequently expressed hesitation about continuing with the series.
Still, the project sails forward. Depp's not a lock until he signs off on the script, which he hasn't yet seen, but Captain Barbossa actor Geoffrey Rush told MTV in late September that he's been told to keep his schedule open for cameras to roll next spring.
And before any of that took place, »

What began as a rumor back in July of this year has finally been confirmed by director Rob Marshall, who spilled the beans on his involvement with Pirates of the Caribbean 4 while holding a DGA screening of his latest film, Nine. Marshall will replace director Gore Verbinski, who steered the ship on the first three Pirates films, which cleared over a billion dollars in domestic box office receipts combined. According to a tipster at AICN, not only did Marshall confirm that he's on board, but he also said that he's looking forward to working with Johnny Depp. Here's a clipping from the report: I just saw the DGA screening of Rob Marshall's latest movie, Nine tonight and stayed for the Q & A after, so I thought I'd write in to share my thoughts. First, let me just get the Huge scoop out of the way: when asked about his next project (by Nora Ephron, who »

Hideo Nakata is set to direct the supernatural thriller "Voice From the Stone." Nakata directed the original Japanese version of "The Ring" ("Ringu") and the English sequel "The Ring Two" starring Naomi Watts.
Mark Wheaton ("The Messengers," "Friday the 13th") has written the screenplay based on an Italian novel of the same name. The story revolves around a female child psychologist who takes on the case of a young boy who made a promise to his dying mother. The promise? He will remain silent until her spirit returns. Tan dan dan...
Nakata is the perfect choice to helm this project. "Voice From the Stone" has a strong female character and a perturbed young boy at its core, much like "The Ring" films with Watts' Rachel protecting her young son Aidan (David Dorfman). »

Japanese director Hideo Nakata is most famous for directing the original versions of the “Ring” movies, or “Ringu” as its known overseas. He loved directing ghost ladies who climb out of TV’s so much, he returned to the franchise in 2005 to direct the sequel to the American version starring Naomi Watts. (And, I suppose, the nice paycheck didn’t hurt, either.) With “Ring” still apparently popular (though I suppose that’s open to debate), Nakata is currently attached to direct the third entry, which is scheduled for 2011. Before that, though, Nakata is helming “Voice from the Stone” for Zanuck Independent. Based on an Italian novel of the same name, “Voice From the Stone” was adapted by Mark Wheaton, and tells the story of a female child psychologist who takes on the case of a young boy. Nothing creepy there, right? Not so fast, my friends. You see, the hook »

Let Me In, the American remake of the Swedish vampire flick Let the Right One In, starts production today, transporting the coming-of-age tale from the cold and blustery Stockholm, Sweden to the dry and hot Albuquerque, New Mexico. Director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) is returning to the source material for Let the Right One In, the Swedish novel of the same name by author John Ajvide Lindqvist, to help inspire the story about a young boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee from The Road) who befriends a mysterious new girl in town (Chloe Moretz from the upcoming Kick-Ass), who happens to be a vampire.
With Richard Jenkins already cast as Moretz's caretaker, the new cast additions announced are Elias Koteas as the policeman, Cara Buono (The Sopranos) as Smit McPhee's mother, and Sasha Barrese (The Hangover) as Virginia, the character who survives a vampire attack in the Swedish original.

Before I launch into the conclusion of my 50 Influential Scream Queens (read part 1 here), please let me remind you that this list is based upon my personal taste, and my personal taste alone. I didn't poll 100 Fango readers, the Fango staff or any other form of 'industry professionals'. It's all opinion, so if you feel I've wronged a certain actress by excluding them from the list, don't leap to brand the entire Fango crew 'vile'. I probably just don't personally find their work to be that influential. Either that or I'm just ignorant to their accomplishments!
25. Mia Farrow: Mia's genre work may be a bit limited, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosemary's Baby will forever be regarded as one of the creepiest films in history. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse is harrowing to say the least, and will always remain (in my mind) one of the best performances the genre has seen. »

Although she is best known for her work in Less Than Perfect and Popular, Sara Rue has built a comprehensive resume dating back to her starring role in NBC's Grand and a Roseanne cameo as a younger version of the star, blockbuster parts (Pearl Harbor, The Ring) and the occasional reality appearances (Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, E! Hollywood Hold'em). These days, Rue plays Eastwick's most suspicious resident -- the younger, spunkier Gladys Kravitz of ABC if you will -- while developing her own feature film and scouting her next sitcom gig. Movieline spoke to Rue two weeks ago about all of this and Andy Dick as her dogs barked in the background. »

In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.
Originally published, 10/25/2002
What were the chances?
The Ring at first seemed like one of the least promising projects of the Halloween film season: A U.S. remake of a Japanese cult classic that hasn’t been given a chance to prove itself Stateside, directed by a filmmaker whose résumé is made up of comedies. Yet The Ring stacks up as the most satisfying studio horror film of the fall season. Unlike, for handy example, Brett Ratner’s Red Dragon, Gore Verbinski’s movie honors its predecessor and recaptures what made it so effective while also giving the material its own stylistic identity, and adding new material that doesn’t compromise the whole or feel gratuitous.
The U.S. Ring has as spare a mood as the original, »

Greetings Fango Fiends! It's time once again for another installment of Fangoria Musick's Lists Of Doom - the column where we track down some of your favorite (or soon-to-be favorite) bands to get their thoughts on on the world of horror, and which films scare them.
For our 27th feature, we caught up with John Cooper, Lead Vocalist & Bassist of Skillet, the Grammy-nominated band that recently released Awake on Atlantic Records. A certified connoisseur of pop culture with "an irrational love for comic books, Star Wars, and mostly all thing science fiction", it was time for Fango to pick his brain to find out what he digs on the Horror side of life. After all, with a new single and video called "Monster", there had to be something brewing beneath the surface, right?

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (The Island, The Legend of Zorro, Mission: Impossible III), after writing the first two, will not be returning to the script duties for “Transformers 3.”
Orci made a post on the Don Murphy forum saying he and Kurtzman won’t be involved with the third film. That means that Ehren Kruger (Scream 3, The Ring, The Ring Two, The Brothers Grimm), who also worked on the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen script, will be going it alone on part three, laboring under the iron fist of director Michael Bay.
Orci wrote,
“He (Ehren Kruger) really did his homework. He’s awesome.”
Director Michael Bay recently confirmed that plans were in motion for a Transformers 3 and that he and actress Megan Fox would be returning.

Naomi Watts is the world's most profitable actress. The 'International' star has topped Forbes.com's latest Best Actresses for the Buck list after proving movie bosses can make the most money from her. The 41-year-old beauty - who has also starred in 'The Ring', 'King Kong' and 'Eastern Promises' - helped the box office rake in an estimated $44 for every $1 she was paid for her last three major films. The list's top spots are notably filled by many actresses willing to accept a lower salary than A-list stars like Angelina Jolie - who was named Hollywood's highest-earning actress by Forbes earlier this year. 'Blood Diamond' actress Jennifer Connelly, 38 - who previously won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, »
