An old memory
Piaras25 May 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I remember this as a TV series and not a movie.

I only have vague memories of it though. It's set during World War II when some British children are invited to live in the United States by the President's son.

However, the ship they are traveling on is attacked by a U-Boat and sunk. The authorities believe they have all drowned, but several children survive the attack and eventually find themselves stranded on a small island.

The series consists of them living on the island and having to deal with their situation (and some hostile monkeys).

All the while they are there, the President's son never gives up hope that they have survived. In one episode a fighter plane crash lands on the island and the children use the plane's radio to try and get help. However the only person to hear their mayday is the President's son himself, who happened to be on a yacht at the time. People think the Presiden't son is delusional and he is then sedated.

All in all, this was a really interesting show.

Who has this movie?
bunnyfrew3 June 2005
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. It was a two parter and it came on Nickelodeon. JD Roth was the presidents son and he invited a boatload of British kids to the us to visit but the boat got caught in a storm. I have been desperately (and secretly) trying to find this movie. Please let me know. I am most interested in it. Why do we have to have 10 blocks of lines? So anyway, I think the fact that Lost is out (and also excellent) has been working my mind of remembering this movie. It's one of the only things that really sticks out in my mind from childhood. I don't remember how they survived on the island but I consider myself a girl (boy) scout who is always prepared and wondered how I could survive a plane crash.

buy or rent Children's Island

You can buy or rent Children's Island (1984) on DVD or VHS at this site. This site has lots of rare films so good luck!

http://www.cvmc.net/movie.jsp?movie_id=277

"In England during World War II, two brothers, Stanley and Tommy, roughly fourteen and nine, grow a bit tired of being bombed, write a letter to the American president requesting that they and other British children be sheltered in the U.S.A. Thanks to the President's grandson, twelve year old William (J.D. Roth), the idea is accepted, but Stanley and Tommy's boat is attacked by a German submarine before it can ever reach shore. The lads plus nine other children then find themselves alone on a deserted island, and they there slowly establish a small society with their combined talents. In the meantime, William is determined to find the missing kids, even though all the adults around him consider them dead. Primarily meant for a younger crowd, but a very rare epic which might best be defined as an "optimistic Lord of The Flies." Based on Mira Lobe's book Insupu."

i also remember the series,it was great,

it made my summer vacation

and as a very good one, the name wasn't like the movie but it was made out of the initials of all kids, put together to a strange word

and that's how they called the island, and as you can see it wasn't really catchy, i'll love someone to remember

please i'm going nuts....i'll buy you lunch, dinner, i'll clean your house and wash your cloths and try to make 10 lines and keep on writing all these amazing comments about a dreamy series while bob is singing in the background in desolation road

Children stranded on island
jts3406-131 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen this movie several years ago, and have it on tape. I liked the movie but I don't recall the ending. I will have to find the tape and watch it again. I know it is set during WWII and Bristish children are being sent to America to escape the war. The Presisdent's son is excited about them coming over, but their ship sinks and they get stranded on an island. The rest of the movie is how they survive, and how the Presidents son keeps telling his dad he knows they are still alive. Also, the children seem to change while on the island. The Boy Scout of the group takes charge, but another boy is jealous, and wants to be in charge, and he enlists the help of some of the other children to help. Similar to the children in Lord of the Flies.

Children's island

I have read that you all like the TV series but nobody can get hold of a copy. I too remember the series very well and enjoyed it so i bought a copy which is very rare to get hold of in the UK but i have a copy for sale which i bought from a site in America. If anybody would like to buy it they can contact me. Children's island is a series shown on TV in 1984 and is a bit dated now but to those who remember it it should bring back memories. England is being devastated by bombs during the second world war and 2 young brothers write a letter to the president of the US, the message is clear, earnest and touching, please help us escape the bombs. The president helps but as the children are at sea the boat is torpedoed and they manage to make it to an island, that is when they must survive for how long? they do not know.

Does anyone out there remember this?

Warning: Spoilers
I have been searching for a show I saw when I was about 10 years old (I think it aired on Nickelodeon), and I think this is it. All I can recall is the very end, where the kids are all sitting down to eat at a large table on the island, and a girl carrying a bowl of food to the table. Does anyone else remember anything about this?

I had been searching for it by "plot" (children stranded on a deserted island), but this never came up. It is the right time period, and I seem to recall the kids had British accents. Also, it was based on a novel, which I can't find info about either. Please respond if you know anything about this!
