It's the most prestigious award ceremony for movies & it's usually just a bunch of white ppl voting for a bunch of all white movies although every now & then they let minorities join in on the fun.

Originally, Macaulay Culkin
was scheduled to give the award for Best Visual Effects. The plan was, after Culkin announced the nominees, he would say, "Could I have the envelope please?" A giant, roaring, animatronic T-Rex (from Jurassic Park
(1993)) would then suddenly appear onstage, with the envelope naming the winners. After taking the envelope from the T-Rex's mouth, Culkin would return to the podium and say, "Thanks, Dad." Macaulay's father, Christopher Culkin
, was offended by the line and demanded that it be cut from the show. When the Oscar producers refused, Christopher Culkin
pulled his son from the show, and Elijah Wood
gave the award instead. See more
John Williams - Winner: Best Original Score
Thank you all so very much. I want to thank for his friendship and support, Ken Wannberg. And for their great artistry, Itzhak Perlman and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. And for a man who always makes work fun and is a seeming, unending source of inspiration, Steven Spielberg. Thank you.
