Horror-On-Sea 2018 Interview: ‘Pitchfork’ director Glenn Douglas Packard

Pitchfork is new slasher style horror from co-writer and director Glenn Douglas Packard, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Friday 19th January. I got chance to ask Glenn about creating the character, what makes Pitchfork stand out in the genre and his favorite scenes in the movie.

What can we expect from Pitchfork?

A new slasher indie horror with a killer you will fall in love with.

How did you come up with the concept for Pitchfork and what were your influences?

Pitchfork had been in my head for 8 years and I was ready to release him. I had seen a rerun of Oprah Winfrey show episode about a boy who was treated as a dog his whole life, and now as a grown man he wrote a book and was helping people that came from child abuse. I thought to myself what if

In episode 16 of Corpse Club, co-hosts Heather Wixson, Patrick Bromley, Scott Drebit, Derek Anderson, and Jonathan James gather around their microphones to discuss memorable first sequels from a wide variety of horror franchises, including Halloween, Friday the 13th, Wrong Turn, Child's Play, The Howling, Alien, and many more.

Drive-In Dust Offs: Spider Baby (1967)

Never mind the holidays; dealing with family can be stressful any time of year. Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, or just a mandatory visit to a forgotten aunt you haven’t seen in 15 years can all hold their share of tension and misery. But at least be thankful you’re not part of the Merrye clan, the family at the center of Jack Hill’s Spider Baby (1967), a quirky yet clever examination of the prototypical horror tribe that influenced the likes of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) and The Hills Have Eyes (1977).

Filmed in 1964 but not given a limited release by American General Pictures until late ’67, it languished in general obscurity until a video restoration in the mid ‘90s shone a light on its peculiar charms. Filmed in 12 days on a budget of $55,000, Spider Baby, or The Maddest Story Ever Told (full title) is like watching The Addams Family shake the family tree and having incest,

Joe Lynch to Direct Horror Film Taste from Screenplay by No One Lives Writer David Cohen

Filmmaker Joe Lynch recently enjoyed a well-received world premiere of his new movie Mayhem (read Heather's review here) at the SXSW Film Festival, and true to form, the Holliston co-star is showing no signs of slowing down, as he's now set to direct the horror film Taste from a screenplay by David Cohen, the screenwriter behind 2012's No One Lives.

Deadline reports the news of Lynch taking the directing reins on Taste, which will be produced by Erin Eggers, Chase Hudson and Matthew Porter of Penchant Entertainment, with Cohen on board to produce as well.

Filming on Taste is slated to start in Los Angeles this summer with a food-centric (and potentially cannibalistic) plot (via Deadline):

"When a young chef-on-the-rise is invited to cook for a revered master’s private supper club, what at first seems like a career-launching opportunity soon turns deadly with the discovery that she and
