This is a particularly pointless film. Everyone is either a drunk or/and a crook or about to be seduced into becoming one. It is not even clear what the main theme is: how to rob a bank or how to corrupt policemen or how easy it is to be corrupted? What is clear is that the writers are obviously on the side of the petty thief Jo Jo who is absurdly romanticised (compared to an independent bird which nevertheless comes to roost with his mate: Totally risible.) As for suspense, it is completely devoid of it and the outcome is fully predictable: it is obvious that Jo Jo will save his skin anyhow.
The end comes rather abruptly as if they had run short of money to finish it properly. There are some mild comic moments that do not compensate for the boring rest.
The only redeeming feature of this film could be a very youthful and very nice-looking Douglas Henshall but even his performance is not memorable as he looks rather too young for his role. Though in his late twenties, he looks too much like a teenager à la James Dean not quite believable as a police inspector.
The DVD is just worth collecting for die-hard fans of Henshall and Billy Connolly.
