Trivia

The programme officially ended in 1995, by which time it was the longest running British television show in history (since overtaken by Panorama (1953)). However, it returned for two specials in 1996, and another two in 1998. See more »

Not very good .....
10 October 2009 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

My mother used to watch this when I was a child so needless to say I watched it too. It seemed to come and go on TV and despite efforts to give it a makeover with a string of new presenters it gradually lost popularity and ended up in the graveyard slot on BBC 2. So where did it go wrong ?

First - lousy production values. The camera work was awful.

Second - Both acts on the floor at the same time. Made it difficult for the viewer with the above mentioned lousy camera work.

All in all, nobody was that sorry when it vanished from our screens. However a phoenix was to rise from the ashes with the splendid 'Celebrity come dancing' which has since been exported abroad. Celebrities being humiliated each week ..... or really strutting their stuff.
