What's all the fuzz about?
Janita Dusbee18 May 2002
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think I've ever seen a film like this. In fact, I'm absolutely sure. WHen I saw this, I was staying at a holiday park, which had cable-tv, broadcasting movies like this to fill the gaps between the Big Pictures. Which is obvious, because I don't think any channel in the world would broadcast this for any other reason. The story, taking place in a refrigerator (how creative, don't think Robert DeNiro has ever done that) is about cups of yoghurt, trying to be eaten asap, and they're willing to do just about anything for that (no that anyone cares, or should care, but:SPOILER they even kill each other! How bad is that!). But it gets better: there are other products in the fridge too! Like carrots and potatoes. The film has a disturbing mood, and is very dark and scary. It made me feel a little uncomfortable. And then I realised: they're cups of yoghurt! What's all the fuzz about?! If the director's objective was to stop me from eating yoghurt, well, she succeeded. Problem: I haven't eaten yoghurt since birth. This movie is funny in a ridiculous way. After seeing this, you'll never think the same about your fridge again.

inventive & intriguing

High quality animation: Here is an imaginative (anthropocentric) look at yogurt. Don't forget that yogurt is actually alive! Ms.Guerard brilliantly follows the cups within the refrigerator; making grand use of the space. So much better than the more customary horizontal frame movement, her animation explores the three-dimensional features of the frame; moving her 'characters' from foreground to background. The ominous atmosphere links the chilled space of the 'box' and the mystery of the disappearing yogurts; each imperiled by expiration dates. The work is a 10 but for the fact that I don't speak French, and the subtitles are, on occasion, too quick.

I look forward to many more magnificent projects from Sylvie Guerard.
