Boy Meets Girl is a funny, tender, sex positive romantic comedy that explores what it means to be a real man or woman, and how important it is to live a courageous life not letting fear stand in the way of going after your dreams.
A film journey through a universe of female masculinity. A legendary Drag King Night in New York is the point of departure for an odyssey to transgendered worlds, where women become men - some for a night, others for their whole lives. What motivates them? What changes take place? What do they dream of? The drag kings of New York meet in clubs and change lustfully into their male alter egos, parodying them and exploring male eroticism and power strategies. In London we see women experiment with hormones to become new men and 'cyborgs'. Masculinity and transformation as performance, subversion or existential necessity. Written by
I thought this one was a little bit slow, but well worth seeing till the very end. It's form probably won't change the history of cinema, but I suppose the director figured that doing a movie on intersexual people was already going to shock some viewers, and decided to keep it simple enough, and stick to the basic message of pluralism. I'm glad I saw this one. Sometimes, girls will be boys, and that's OK.
