No irony intended in rating this a 3
12 April 2008 | by (South Africa) – See all my reviews

I never thought it would be so painful to watch a franchise being milked.

Apparently Chris Tucker has only had to make three movies in the past 9 years, and this is the third one. No prizes for guessing the other two.

It's not that Rush Hour 3 is a particularly bad movie, but it's just a tired re-working of themes already heavily mined in the first two instalments.

The only marginal difference here is that whereas in Episode 1 and 2 the "player-outside-his-turf" mantle was worn alternately by Lee (Jackie Chan) and Carter (Chris Tucker) respectively, here, they're both out of their comfort zone viz. Europe, and more specifically, Paris This plot point doesn't actually change the formula's outcome that much, because every other element is essentially unchanged.

The coolest stuff in the movie is already showcased in the trailer, so if you're pressed for time, just watch that.

PS: Roman Polanski did look like he was having fun though...so much fun, in fact, that he didn't bother to have his name added to the credits. Smart man.
