Storyline

The series is centered around the exploits of two young children-the optimistic, dim-witted, and kindhearted Billy, and the dark, ill-tempered, sinister, and very intelligent Mandy. After cheating at a limbo match against the Grim Reaper (out of retaliation for putting the limbo rod too low for them to go under), he is enslaved in a perpetual, unwanted friendship with the children, who use his magical abilities and supernatural powers to venture into supernatural locations or environments, such as the underworld, inhabited by an assortment of grotesque monstrous beasts. The pair also may use Grim's enormously strong supernatural abilities or ties with a number of beastly characters to achieve goals or desires for themselves with grotesque, altered, or twisted end results. Famed fictional monsters including Dracula, the Wolfman, and the bogeyman are also comically depicted in the series, which also includes the characters of the nerdy, awkward Irwin and the snobby, stuck-up, spoiled ... Trivia

The show started as a short film made by creator Maxwell Atoms back in 1996. The film is about Billy wanting his inner demons out of him and Mandy wanting to saw him in half and Grim would emerge during the process. The film has not emerged since it's in a film roll according to Atoms. But there is a picture of what the film looked like, Billy looks pretty much the same but Mandy has major differences than her appearance in the show: she has pigtails, she has an evil smile, and she has a nose. Darkly amusing
11 September 2004 | by See all my reviews

Since "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" has been spun off from "Grim and Evil", it is a much better show. This deserves to be on its own.

The premise is unusual. Billy (an idiotic little boy) and Mandy (a dark, sarcastic girl) trick Grim (aka Death), who has come for their gerbil, into being their "best friend forever". The show is a series of adventures of the two with their tall, dark and boney "friend".

This is apparently not everyone's cup of tea. The reaction to this show is very strong. Some hate it, some (like me) love it, especially with the rather morbid sense of humor that Mandy has. At the start of every show, Mandy gives a little comment, often relating to the episodes in the show. My favorite is "Evolution takes no prisoners". I'd like that on a bumper sticker!

My only complaint is...Why does Grim/Death have a Jamaican accent?

All in all, if you like "The Addams family", you'll get a kick out of this show.
