The offbeat adventures of Courage, a cowardly dog who must overcome his own fears to heroically defend his unknowing farmer owners from all kinds of dangers, paranormal events and menaces that appear around their land.
The series is centered around the exploits of two young children-the optimistic, dim-witted, and kindhearted Billy, and the dark, ill-tempered, sinister, and very intelligent Mandy. After cheating at a limbo match against the Grim Reaper (out of retaliation for putting the limbo rod too low for them to go under), he is enslaved in a perpetual, unwanted friendship with the children, who use his magical abilities and supernatural powers to venture into supernatural locations or environments, such as the underworld, inhabited by an assortment of grotesque monstrous beasts. The pair also may use Grim's enormously strong supernatural abilities or ties with a number of beastly characters to achieve goals or desires for themselves with grotesque, altered, or twisted end results. Famed fictional monsters including Dracula, the Wolfman, and the bogeyman are also comically depicted in the series, which also includes the characters of the nerdy, awkward Irwin and the snobby, stuck-up, spoiled ... The show started as a short film made by Maxwell Atoms back in 1996. The film is about Billy wanting his inner demons out of him, and Mandy wanting to saw him in half, and Grim would emerge during the process. The film has not emerged, since it's in a film roll according to Atoms. But there is a picture of what the film looked like, Billy looks pretty much the same, but Mandy has major differences than her appearance in the show: she has pigtails, she has an evil smile, and she has a nose. Wow, do i take back my previous review! I love this show!
Ya know, I'm watching an episode of Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy right now where Billy has turned himself into chocolate. And now i realize how much I like this show. It's funny, weird, and good.
In my last review i did something very stupid and kept comparing this to another show. While I still think Billy and Mandy could use a darker, more twisted edge, the shows sweet weird edge is more than enough to make it better than most other cartoons. I repent! I really like this show! Forgive me!
Anyway, why do I like the show more now? Well I stopped trying to compare it to Invader zim. Zim's a great show, but it's not Billy and Mandy, and neither is Billy and Mandy Zim. I realized i needed to respect the show on it's own merits. I still may not love it as much as Zim, but man do i see the error of my ways and like the show for what it is: crazy, cool and funny!
