Govardhan, a doctor by profession, is wrongly accused of bombing a train and is jailed by the British in Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani, in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He witnesses the sufferings of hundreds of Indian prisoners there.
A strong character ably supported by script and screenplay
The film plots few incidents that took place around a tea estate and the way it affected the life of three young men,Jayarajan(mohanlal), Chandran(Rahman) and Johny(Nedumudi Venu). The group of three young men, estate employees led by Jayarajan created a master plan to deceive their manager and take over a huge money from company. As this was spotted by the manager, jayarajan, who persuaded the other two to join him, killed the manager.
Chandran and Johny, two family men who were in desperate need for money having fallen for the promises offered by jayrajan, were later haunted by memories of the crime they did. However jayarajan, kept on continuing his thirst for money and women.Beholding his verbal capability,Jayrajan kept on dumping his lovers,Padma a nurse ,Manager's wife and finally ended in estate CEO'(Ummer) daughter.
To keep his way forward clean and unobstructed jayarajan killed his colleague Johny and Padma.Chandran who was afraid of Jayrajan's deeds became even more worried when he knew that jayarajan was going to marry his CEO's daughter, who happened to be his college mate.
Jayarajan's cunningness was evidently and powerfully exposed to audience by script writer , M.T vasudevan nair and mohanlal gave life to Jayarajan at his best. The film concludes Jayarajan as an unbeatable hero, who passed through various miseries in his childhood and even at the point where his crimes were exposed, mentioned in his own words as ,"I played the game beautifully,I also liked the way I played, even that is more important. And finally you guys are going to win,But I don't like to fail...Bang !"
