Stupid, stupid..., 26 July 2002

There's nothing much to say about this show other than it was a cheaply
produced time-waster with insultingly easy questions about pop
culture.
Then why am I wasting my time writing about it? Well, the one and only
episode I've seen (on PAX, I think) asked, "Who directed THE NIGHTMARE
BEFORE CHRISTMAS?" The answer given was "Tim Burton," which was,
according
to the show, "correct." Now, anyone who regularly visits IMDb should know
that Burton only produced the movie and that Henry Selick is credited as
director.
I couldn't believe the producers of this show were too careless to confirm
the accuracy of their questions. If I had been a contestant in that
episode, I would have raised a big stink. If the makers of a show don't
care about its integrity, why should anybody watch it?
On the bright side, however, I watched this episode with my roommate who
had
never heard the name "Henry Selick" before, so he eagerly wagered $50 that
I
didn't know what I was talking about. ("Surely Tim Burton is the director
of TIM BURTON'S THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS," he must have said to
himself.) Well, he'll never make that mistake again, as I cheerfully
separated him from his beer money that evening.
