Sega ordered Sonic Team to remove several levels from the game to release it on time. These include Hidden Palace Zone, Wood Zone, Genocide City Zone (which was renamed Cyber City Zone once the Japanese staff fully realized what the word meant), a winter level and a dust level. The names of the latter two zones have not been confirmed but have appeared in fan-made hacks as Winter Hill and Dust Hill. See more
On Emerald Hill Zone Act 2 when facing Dr. Robotnik, Robotnik enters the Scene with a Helicopter that grafts onto a 4 wheeled unit with a Drill in front. When the drill Unit goes past Sonic, He is unaffected, however when Robotnik gets onto it with the Helicopter, He is. See more
The ending depends on how many Chaos Emeralds you have. If you don't have all 7 Emeralds, Sonic will jump off the "Sonic F" plane and pose. If all were collected, Sonic will transform into Super Sonic and fly and pose while soaring. If you choose "Tails Alone", Tails will fall, Sonic will catch him and pose if you collect all Emeralds or not. After the credits, if you collect the Emeralds or not, a sign will say, as always, "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" See more
