Could there be a new genre waiting to be defined? 'Sagitario', says the blurb in my local cinema programme, 'interweaves the stories of a handful of city-dwellers in search of romance in Madrid'. A carefully-selected band of various ages, sexualities, income-brackets, insecurities, who are sketched (lovingly), lampooned (gently), recognised by the audience (with amusement or resignation) and carried to resolution or non-resolution which is determinedly possible while occasionally indulging in the improbable for greater tragi-comic effect. This one, I diagnose, assumes that its audience, apart from being obviously urban and cultured, will remember the seventies and preferably know a bit about films, but the up-and-coming young arty crowd will find enough to keep them interested too. All the characters are attractive, nicely typed. Adapted as a television serial, it could run and run, amigos.
