Netflix’s fastest binge-watched shows revealed

We now know the fastest binge-watched original shows on Netflix.

Netflix has unquestionably changed the way we consume our TV content, no longer are we content with waiting week to week for a new episode of our favourite shows, now we aren’t even content with waiting one day — with many racing to see who can finish a new show.

The rise of binge watching can be largely attributed to Netflix and helped along by their ever increasing library of original and revived series.

Netflix is pretty secretive about which of their products are being viewed the most, but in a moment of transparency, the streaming giant has released a list of its fastest binge-watched shows.

The results are pretty interesting, and surprising, which you can see below:

Netflix Reveals Their Fastest Binge-Watched Shows

In a rare move from the notoriously secretive streaming service, Netflix has revealed the list of their fastest-viewed TV shows. It turns out that a whopping 8.4 million users have watched at least one entire season of a show within the first 24 hours of its release – a process known as “binge-racing.” The company announced that this practice has been common since the beginning of the service but has really taken off in recent years. In fact, from 2013 to 2016, the number of binge-racers increased by 20 times.

As for the list itself, unsurprisingly, most of the series here are half-hour comedies, which are easier to consume quickly. However, there are a few longer dramas included, too. Notably, big hitters like Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black and House of Cards all make an appearance. The winner of the lot, however, is Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Gilmore Girls: This Is (Probably) Why Netflix Is So Eager for a Second Revival

Netflix is very interested in traveling back to Stars Hollow — and now we have a big clue as to why.

The super-secretive streamer pulled the curtain back on its internal data stream this week, releasing a list of their most “binge-raced” series (i.e. those shows where viewers watched a full season in a single day or less), and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life came in at No. 1.

Netflix Plans to Release 80 Original Films in 2018

Netflix expects to release around 80 original films next year, as it looks to hit the kind of scale in movies that it’s achieved on the TV side, according to chief content officer Ted Sarandos.

“They range anywhere from the million-dollar Sundance hit, all the way up to something on a much larger scale,” like Will Smith-starrer “Bright,” Sarandos said in an investors’ interview Monday about Netflix’s third-quarter 2017 results.

Bright,” a cop action-thriller movie directed by David Ayer, had a reported production price tag of $90 million. It’s set to debut on Netflix worldwide on Dec. 22. Sarandos also cited as a forthcoming big-budget picture Martin Scorsese’s gangster movie “The Irishman,” starring Robert DeNiro, slated to be released on Netflix in early 2019. “The Irishman” has a budget of more $100 million.

Sarandos said with the release of “Bright” — a “big-budget, event movie” — “I think people will start seeing the potential for this original movie initiative, that it

Busan: Kross Pictures Finds Fertile Ground in India-Korea Remakes
For years, South Korea’s high-concept feature movies, including prominent titles such as “Oldboy,” have been ripped off, plagiarized and blatantly copied by some companies in India.

Now, Korean producer and packaging company Kross Pictures is busily turning Korean films and intellectual property into a viable business in India.

Headed by Thomas Kim Hyunwoo, a former investment banker and L.A.-based Disney executive, Kross last year produced Amitabh Bachchan-vehicle “Te3n” as an authorized remake of 2013 Korean crime drama “Montage.” It now has 10 other Korea-to-India projects at different stages of development.

“Our model is about obtaining and controlling established IP, with a view to packaging it for film and TV,” said Kim, speaking at the Busan Film Festival’s Asian Film Market. China and Vietnam are among the other markets Kross is targeting, though India is arguably the most promising. “We see many commonalities along with the cultural differences.”

Wamg Interview: Actor John Carroll Lynch – Director of Lucky

Actor John Carroll Lynch first caught the attention of moviegoers in 1996 when he played Frances McDormand’s husband in Fargo (“People don’t much use the three-cent stamp”). A native of Boulder, Colorado, Lynch spent the next decade popping up in supporting roles in a variety of films including Volcano, Face/Off, and Gothika. It was his chilling, scene-stealing turn in David Fincher’s Zodiac in 2007 that made moviegoers really take notice and when he went from being ‘that Norm Gunderson guy’ to ‘John Carroll Lynch, – dynamic character actor’. Lynch continued to impress in roles on the big screen in films like Gran Torino, Shutter Island, Jackie (where he played Lyndon Johnson), and The Founder, where he played one of the McDonald brothers. On the small screen he’s entertained audiences as John Wayne Gacy on American Horror Story and even had his own stand-alone episode of The Walking Dead.
