Despite the propaganda peddled by the news anchor in the opening of the film, in real life you cannot go to a gun store or a pawn shop and just walk out with a gun with fake identification. In real life you have to fill out information which is submitted to the F.B.I. for a background check (which also verifies your identification) and if approved, once the waiting period is over, you can get it. Even in states with no waiting period, you still have to have a permit, which is verified. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) comes by and verifies stock, serial numbers, etc., and if it doesn't match up and guns are missing, the store can be shut down and serious legal matters occur.
