Insipid Example Of How Bad Rugrats Has Gotten **mild spoilers perhaps**
Hancock_the_Superb20 July 2002
Warning: Spoilers
Since "Rugrats"' falling from the category of good and funny cartoon series to a mediocre and indeed outright horrible fare for two year olds in the past three or four years, obviously the tyrants at Klasky-Csupo should be out of ideas. After dumbing down all of the characters, adding even stupider new ones, replacing some voices (though I like Nancy Cartwright, she is NOT Chucky Finster!), and having no sense of continuity (ex.: in a Kimi episode I watched the other day, Tommy and Chucky each got a new puppy; but it subsequent episode, the aforementioned dogs never appear), you'd think the creators could kill the show for mercy. But noooo.

All I will say concerning this special is that it sucks! While not as horrible as the Kimi episodes, everyone is even stupider than they were, including Grandpa (my God! He used to be the best character on the show, but now, he has no real purpose). The ending is needlessly fluffy, and the only thing different between this and other crappy new episodes ('98-'01) is that the kids can interact with adults. Whoa, what fun!

No stars at all for "The Rugrats All Growed Up". Klasky-Csupo, please DESTROY this show before it gets any worse.

A Great Spin Off
Ginger8730 December 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I remember watching the Rugrats All Growed Up special when it first aired in July 2001. Since I have always loved the Rugrats I thought it was cool to see the Rugrat characters 10 years in the future. The special was pretty good. It had a lot of good moments.

I think all of the characters changed in their own way. Especially Chuckie liking a girl. That was cool. I also liked Grandpa as the bus driver. That was funny. I liked Angelica, too. I think she was funnier than ever. Especially in the beginning. Seeing Dil in the future was also interesting.

My favorite part was when the Rugrats were in school. I liked it when Phil and Lil thought the spaghetti was worms. That was cute. Overall I liked this special and I suggest all Rugrat fans who haven't seen it to do so. I give it 10/10 stars!

Rugrats is awesome and amazing and the best show ever. Tommy is sweet, kind, awesome and friendly tommy is also a very good friend he is also the cutest boy in Rugrats. Lil is awesome, sweet, pretty and excellent she is also a very good friend to tommy. Angelica is very nice to the rugrats but mostly to tommy she is also very pretty and likes music how do I know I see her listening to her cd player all the time. Susie is nice and gets in fights with angelica a lot. Chuckie is a little bet ugly because he has braces but he is funny.Phil is Funny and his voice didn't change at all. My favorite characters are Tommy Pickles and Lil Deville because they are very cute. Please Don't cancel Rugrats because I love it so much.

For good or for bad, it revived interest in Rugrats
elonmusk-is_a_moron25 June 2022
By the time this special was made, Rugrats was already being accused of jumping the shark with the addition of divisive characters such as Dil or Kimi. While I personally don't dislike them, I have to admit that the show seemed to be running out of ideas.

This special, perhaps as a symbolic celebration of the first decade of Rugrats on air, revived a lot of interest in the franchise, and opened the door for many new stories.

Contrary to what The Simpsons writers seem to think, people do enjoy seeing characters growing up and changing instead of being perpetually static.

That was the main appeal this special (and the spin-off series which it inspired) had, and it was a more than welcomed change, disregard of the typical high school cliches.

To this day, All Grown Up! Remains to be the best Rugrats spin-off.

Not a good idea
Jez32uk15 November 2003
As a one off this show might have worked but to option it as an entire series beggars belief.

The appeal of the original show is that the babies are more clued up than the parents yet in a skewed naive kind of way (mispronouncing mundane things and making them sound fantastical etc.) or from similar innocent dream/make believe sections.

Now the kids are "All grown up" or pre-teens which with the high teenage pregnancy rate shouldn't really be seen as all grown up their is little to differentiate it from shows like Recess or All About Ginger (a show which is not thought of so highly i believe).

Either get some new INVENTIVE/ORIGINAL ideas for the original show or leave it as comedy gold in syndication. Scrap this rubbish and save money on animation cells.
