The MPAA would not allow the movie to use the title unless they found a family with the name "Focker".
Alanna Ubach, who plays Greg Focker's former nanny, Isabelle, is actually 10 years younger than Ben Stiller.
James Brolin was originally approached for the role of Bernie but turned it down. When director Jay Roach went to approach Dustin Hoffman for the role, Hoffman was talking non-stop and even out of the point which made him the instant choice for Bernie.
The flight attendant is Kali Rocha the same actress from Meet the Parents (2000). That's why Greg gives her an odd look when she offers to take his bag and be helpful.
Teri Polo accidentally called Barbra Streisand "Boob", which ended up becoming her on-set nickname.
The horn on the Byrnes' RV plays the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon", about which Greg and Jack had a conversation in Meet the Parents (2000).
Greg's full name is Gaylord Myron Focker.
Dustin Hoffman says that he has heard that Robert De Niro is a Tom Collins man. Tom Collins was Robert DeNiro's alias he used at the bank in Casino.
The motion picture association would not allow the the name "Fockers" to be on posters or part of the main title unless they could prove somewhere in America that there was in fact someone with the real last name "Focker". Apparently they found it, because the movie was granted the name "Meet the Fockers" by the MPAA.
During production, the proposed title of "Meet the Fockers" was thought by the studio to be too vulgar. The spelling was briefly changed to "Meet the Fokkers", but that would have upset the franchise's continuity, so it was changed back.
The close-up of Bernie Focker's license plate, as he and Greg are driving away, reveals the letters TMI, a subtle reference to Bernie's propensity for overly detailed explanations and descriptions of personal information. TMI is the literary abbreviation for Too Much Information.
The rum bottle that the Fockers have in their house is Mount Gay Rum.
The actors portraying Greg Focker's parents and in-laws have won six Academy Awards. Dustin Hoffman (Bernie Focker) won two Oscars for Best Actor (Kramer vs. Kramer and Rain Man). Barbra Streisand (Roz Focker) won one Oscar for Best Actress (Funny Girl) and one Oscar for Best Original Song (Evergreen). And Robert De Niro won Oscar for Best Supporting Actor (Godfather Part II) and Best Actor (Raging Bull).
