Two new images from Ash vs. Evil Dead

7 July 2015 9:33 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Last week we got our first look at Bruce Campbell in Starz’ upcoming TV series Ash vs. Evil Dead, and now Entertainment Weekly has debuted another couple of images – the first of which features Ash busting out the chainsaw, and the second sees Ash alongside sidekick Pablo (Ray Santiago) in ‘The Classic’ – a.k.a. Sam Raimi’s Delta – from the original Evil Dead trilogy…

“There’s going to be a lot of the classic, over-the-top, in-your-face fullness, with a pretty trash-talking Ash,” states Campbell. “In a TV series, people gotta talk, so Ash will have more dialogue than he’s pretty much ever had. There’s a pretty high count of Ash’s classic one-liners. They’re back, and they’re strong, and they’re flourishing!”

Ash Vs Evil Dead: First Official Look at Bruce Campbell as Ash

Groovy. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, the first official image of Bruce Campbell as the chainsaw-armed Ash Williams in the upcoming Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead has been revealed.

This new photo features Campbell back as Ash, along with his new sidekicks: Pablo Simon Bolivar (Ray Santiago) and Kelly Maxwell (Dana DeLorenzo).

EW's Dalton Ross also caught up with Campbell and executive producer/co-writer/series premiere director Sam Raimi to discuss the details of the Deadite-dicing series. Raimi talked about Ash once again inadvertently bringing undead demons into our world:

"He’s the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits. And he does. But he’s also still a really good monster fighter."

Campbell touched upon the type of tone viewers can expect from Ash vs Evil Dead:

“It’s The Searchers with carnage and mayhem.”

“Nantucket has been a creative refuge for decades,” multihyphenate Ben Stiller says. “The festival has coalesced the film-writing community and celebrated individuality — in a way that is part of being on the island: independent, isolated (so as to) foster risk-taking.”

Stiller’s parents — Jerry and the late Anne Meara — were original supporters. “I’ve watched this thing become an amazing success that celebrates real talent.”

A Nantucket Film Festival board member, Stiller often attends the fest, which turns 20 this year. He regularly hosts a lively, Sro All-Star Comedy Roundtable that has welcomed Mike Myers, Seth Meyers, Bill Hader, Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman and Brian Williams, among others.

New Ash Vs Evil Dead Teaser Has A Chainsaw To Grind

29 May 2015 10:39 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Starz has unleashed a new teaser for its upcoming horror-comedy series Ash vs Evil Dead, which is currently rolling cameras in New Zealand and will find Bruce Campbell reprising the classic role of renowned Deadite slayer Ash Williams.

Though there’s not much by way of footage from the series, which the original film’s creators Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are exec-producing alongside new showrunner Craig Digregorio, the teaser does a solid job of combining the gory realism of Fede Alvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead reboot with the groovier irreverence of the originals (via Campbell’s enthusiastic line: “Bruce is back, baby!”). If the series can scare and satisfy in equal measure, Evil Dead fans are in for a real treat.

Movies that make money don’t always do so because they’re good. Here’s our list of underwhelming movies that happened to overwhelm the box office.

While the box office is a good, general representation of the popularity of a film, it is not necessarily an indicator of quality. Yes, it is true that most of the highest grossing movies have also received favorable reviews from critics and audiences alike, that’s often what makes them a hit, but there are some exceptions. This is a list of those exceptions. This is a list of those movies that did spectacularly well at the box office, but ended up being an inferior product.

So why would so many people want to see a terrible film? Why would they waste their hard-earned money and fleeting free time? The answer is actually pretty simple. Many of these films share a lot of common traits. »
