This was a superb film in every respect.
The performances were top notch from the whole cast and the movie had a
hollywood feel to it.
Too bad that it didn't do good box office business that due to the fact that its concept and treatment was too much to swallow for the normal bollywood viewer.
But those who regularly watch Hollywood movies and also give some time for the better Bollywood movies should definately have a watch, because this is one of the best Bollywood movies every made.
There nuff said. go and watch it ...
This movie is very dark, personally I do not like dark movies. The
actors especially Amitabh has done superb, his all round talent was
exhibited in this movie, that no other actor could have done justice
like he did. He played a split personality for the entire second half
of the movie. Manoj Bajpai acted second best, he really plays like a
villain with an eerie laugh. Manoj Bajpai is lot more talented than all
the Khans of Bollywood, unfortunately we do not seem to respect real
actors like him but time pass entertainers like SRK, Saif, Aamir and
Salman. This movie is full of Amitabh, when the supreme actor of world
cinema acts, only you can do is keep watching him & admire.
The ending of Aks was a big let down, with all the confusion above the hill where the climax was shot. The "Atman" of Manoj Bajpai jumps to his younger brother and then in the final scene to the junior police officer is hard to believe. It was shown as if the evil can occupy anybody, anytime.

An interesting (Jekyll & Hyde)'s situation where the good officer is
chasing the bad guy who unfortunately is himself ! .. It's an original
genius idea for a movie could has good psychoanalysis and an exciting
police story as well which could make you wonder all the time : How the
end would be ?!
Although the whole thing seems splendid but (Amitabh Bachchan) gave a shrill performance and close to a theatrical one !.. is it the star's old school of acting ?!, or is it the spirit of the Indian people as all the eastern world loves that kind of hot & loud expression ?!, or maybe that (Bachchan) becomes a much worse actor as he aged ! because I've watched him less nervous and more expressive in some of his earlier movies back in the end of 1970s and the start of 1980s for example (Shakti - 1982) where he gave unforgettable performance which was way too far than what we used to deliver from him Lately !
Moreover the element which was about to kill all the beauty of it : The boredom ! Actually it's something here which had been perfectly done ! and it's not the meditative rhythm ! For instances : The scene where (Bachchan) was talking to his evil side in the multiple mirror (that was too long to stand !), The executions' scenes looked so repeated, and yes ..the Climax's scene was so huge and magical but it was so slow like the makers of the film themselves didn't know how to end it persuasively !, so not to mention the usual 7 hundred songs and numbers which you would find in any Indian movie even in a psychological thriller as complex as this ! But try to remember all the time.. It's another formula for another part of the world and everyone has his own way of expression.
So when you measure that movie to its genre sure it'll be so impressive but boring ! however when you measure it by its own desire to amuse thousands of Indians who want just to be entertained by a complete satisfying dream then it's that one indeed but with some dark annoying subject to watch ! Anyway..it was obvious that they tried to make something different and commercial too.. Though for me it was all fine genuine and replete in the same time !
So finally, I think this movie is like its main character : half good, half bad.. Yet the "good" part can, somewhat, excel eventually.
Aks was a flop but all the reviews were good I wanted to know who was more accurate the critics or the viewers well I'm on the critics side what a great and different movie for bollywood and having Raveena Tandon in it made it all the more better I loved the interrogation scene between Raveena and Amitabh and the movie was a bit like faceoff but in a bollywood way the songs were well executed and I was surprised by Raveena's role she doesn't usually pick such up front and sexual roles as this. Her whole performance is brilliant as is Amitabh Bachan and Manoj Bajpai. The star cast the spooky songs the fastpace the hollywood features it should have succeeded flop no way. 6 out of 10
Sure, there's elements of Face/Off and Fallen and the masks are pure
Impossible, but so what. Those movies didn't have Amitabh Bachchan or
Raveena Tandon, now did they?
Probably too dark and disturbing for giant success, though. Too bad.
This eagerly waited movie could very well turn out be a film-noir among
hindi movies. No one else could have pulled it off except Amitabh Bachchan
and Manoj Bajpai considering the theme that movie is based upon. Although
heavily "inspired" by movies like Fallen and Face/Off, this has a unique
bollywood feel all along.
Ofcourse it probably wont be a commercial success as its content is too surreal for mass audience but film is definitely worth watching if you enjoy "ab-normal" films. The biggest asset of the movie is excellent performances by Amitabh and Manoj. The production values are of high quality, even choreography of the songs is innovative.
So in short if you can digest the plot, you will enjoy it.
rakesh omprakash mehra is a man the advertising industry in india bows to. his short film for amul was hugely appreciated. his technical finesse could put any hollywood slam wham director to shame. i wish i could usher similar praise on his maiden directorial venture..aks. this could have been good as a 2 hour movie. but three slowwwwwwwwww hours of boredom which lead to a rather sloppy climax certainly make for your money's worth. and neither is this classic film noir. its just an ambitious attempt gone wrong. 2/5
Must be one of the worst ever movies of the Big B. Hardly recognizable
actors/actresses, any semantical storyline.
What kind of a movie is this?
That is not the kind of movie that Amitabh is renowned for.
