Hannibal Announces Killer Casting Choices

20 November 2012 1:54 PM, PST | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

She was a gorgeous guest star on White Collar and he is a veteran of Broadway. Now Anna Chlumsky and Raul Esparza have joined the killer new series, Hannibal.

NBC is the network daring enough to deliver Hannibal Lecter to the small screen. Their upcoming series is called Hannibal and it revolves around the infamous serial killer.

Did you know that the literary character, Hannibal Lecter, M.D., though created by author Thomas Harris, first hit the big screen thanks to actor Benjamin Hendrickson in the 1986 Michael Mann film, Manhunter? And here I always thought Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal of the sometime cannibal in 1991′s The Silence of the Lambs was the first on-screen adaptation in the series.

Well, now one of my favorite foreign actors will carry the torch for NBC. Danish star Mads Mikkelsen will portray Dr.Lecter. He first hit my radar as Le Chiffre, opposite Daniel Craig in Casino Royal, »

Skyfall: The Last Englishman

9 November 2012 1:12 AM, PST | DearCinema.com | See recent DearCinema.com news »

Sam MendesSkyfall, it seems to me, is not only the best James Bond film hitherto but is also conceived as that last one – although commercial considerations could see the series continuing. It is beset by a deep political melancholy which takes it to a level not attained either by the James Bond films or the director Mendes (best known for American Beauty – 1999). This being the case, any reflection on the import of Skyfall should take into account the history of James Bond. Most facts about Bond’s trajectory in cinema are well known. He began (at least in Ian Fleming’s novels) as a response to the Cold War and his initial enemies were from the Soviet Union – viz. Smersh, which is still invoked in From Russia with Love (1963). With the arrival of détente however, Bond’s principal adversary became Spectre, an international organization committed to dominating the world »

First Look At Mads Mikkelsen As Hannibal Lecter

25 October 2012 2:14 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Thomas Harris fans everywhere will enjoy the first look at Mads Mikkelsen in character as the latest incarnation of Dr. Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter. Set to debut midseason on NBC, Hannibal will also star Hugh Dancy as Special Agent Will Graham in the series from creator Bryan Fuller (Heroes, Pushing Daisies).

Tricky business it is to fill the shoes of other actors in an iconic role (just ask the Bondsmen), but from this glimpse it appears that Mikkelsen may well be our new antihero.

Hannibal Lecter made his screen debut in 1986 with Bryan Cox in Michael Mann’s Manhunter, an adaptation of novelist Thomas HarrisRed Dragon. While serving as a decent thriller, it fell egregiously short of honoring the source material, and after the juggernaut success of The Silence of the Lambs starring the now legendary Anthony Hopkins, the Lecter-rights-holding De Laurentiis’ rectified the situation with the solid (if »
