Making a Case Against an 'I Am Legend' Prequel

25 September 2008 5:14 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

So, Warner Bros. is moving forward with a prequel to I Am Legend. Rather than writing a good film they plan on bringing back Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville and chronicle the final days of humanity in New York before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Smith's character the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city. I Am Legend helmer Francis Lawrence is returning to direct with unproven scripter D.B. Weiss penning the screenplay. I am sure some of you out there are excited about this. I don't know why, but I am sure you are out there. However, have you considered the history of prequels? Let's take a look and see what WB is getting themselves into. Activision won't allow Ratner to make Guitar Hero film

13 September 2008 9:16 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director Brett Ratner, who has screen credits like the Rush Hour series and Red Dragon to his credit, was rumoured to be making a film based on the hit Guitar Hero video games. Now it seems that although Ratner is very interested in making a flick, game producers Activision aren't allowing it.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Ratner said: "I expressed my interest, but because it's such a success, it's like now there's no reason to make a movie about it."

"I might prevail," added Ratner. "I usually do."

So, how would he set a film around the franchise then. The director spilled a few details. "It could be about a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the 'Guitar Hero' competition. One of these dreams-[come-true] kind of concepts." »

Interview: Ken Leung on "Year of the Fish"

27 August 2008 11:00 AM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

By Aaron Hillis

38-year-old New York actor Ken Leung ("Rush Hour," "Saw," "The Squid and the Whale") may have only gigged on a single episode of "The Sopranos" (as Junior Soprano's violent protégé in a psychiatric hospital), but it was enough to inspire producers to write him into another TV pop phenomenon, "Lost." As brooding spiritualist Miles Straume, one of the elusive strangers to parachute onto the island, Leung brings to the role both quiet menace and caustic wisecracks.

Leung can also be seen in writer/director David Kaplan's rotoscope-animated indie "Year of the Fish," a contemporary retelling of the Cinderella fairytale set in a seedy massage parlor and the streets of Chinatown. Leung costars as Johnny, an accordion player who may also be the Prince Charming to disillusioned immigrant Ye Xian (An Nguyen). Notoriously shy, Leung graciously offered up a phone interview from Hawaii while preparing to shoot »
