After graduating from high school, Eric Borg decides to leave home in order to escape from his oppressive father. He moves to his family's small Brooklyn apartment in an attempt to become independent. Desperate to make money, Eric rents out the extra room in his apartment and ends up meeting Sophia, a mysterious seventeen-year-old girl who ran away from her home in upstate New York. She decides to move in with him and they develop a strange relationship. Sophia's simplicity and enthusiasm inspire Eric to get closer to her.
