A Gift From God!!!

...that's how the detective, in the last few minutes describes their motive. For people who like their mysteries conventional, "Motive" is not for you.

From the beginning you will be wondering why! why! why! as the show plunges in at the deep end. Within minutes, the young baby sitter is dead and the couple with the child are scrambling around trying to invent a motive! The husband, Michael (Reece Dinsdale) has stabbed her and followed the old standby - grabbing money and jewelry in an effort to make it look like a robbery, meanwhile Barbara (Susannah Harker) goes off to their weekly pub trivia night and manages to get through the evening - even though she's at breaking point!!

However as the days go by, with a determined detective wanting to get to the bottom of things - he just doesn't buy the robbery motive, Michael goes to pieces and starts to see the dead girl everywhere. On the other hand Barbara draws on hidden hardness to survive, she is determined not to go to jail but hits a brick wall when Michael won't go along with her plan that he should fake his own death. Conscience stricken he now wants to go to the police. She suggests they spend a last night out on their boat if he is so convinced about turning himself in - she is equally convinced that he will not leave the boat alive.

From the first you are frustratedly trying to concoct a motive for the crime (well, I was anyway!!) Michael seemed to be a top salesman in a boat building business, the baby sitter was the owner's daughter, things hadn't been going well, the couple were selling their house - surely the motive was there!! The detective cracks the motive and I am not about to divulge it but it definitely explains the lack of plan and order in the murder.

Once again, none of the actors are familiar, although fans of "Coronation Street" will recognize Reece Dinsdale.
