Storyline

Yuu Morisawa is a 10 year old girl living in her parent's crepe shop in Creamy-ga oka. Alien Pino Pino rewards her for helping him find his way home by offering a magic wand for an entire year. Two cat-like aliens named Nega and Poji help her discover her new powers. She transforms into an older self with a few magic words and is discovered by impresario Shingo Tashibana who needs a singer for a TV show. Under the name Creamy Mami, Yuu starts a very successful career at Parthenon Productions as an Idol pop singer and becomes more famous than the studio's other jealous star Megumi Ayase. However, she still has to cope with her daily life as a school girl which proves to be quite difficult considering the boy she loves, Toshio Ohtomo is Creamy Mami's number one fan. Yuu must preserve her real identity at all cost. Should anyone see her transform, she would loose her powers and remain Creamy Mami forever. Written by Greg Philip {greg_philip@hotmail.com}

Trivia

This show is considered a pioneer of the marketing strategy known as "media mix": using an anime to promote a new singer. Creamy Mami was voiced by then-newcomer Takako Ôta, and the show's opening theme "Delicate ni Suki Shite" was her first song too. The result was a great success. See more »

Magical series
15 April 2002 | by (Paris, France) – See all my reviews

You don't know what magic means until you have seen this series. They don't make them like this anymore. Yuu is a 'magical girl' that lives a normal life. But then one day she meets a cute creature that gives her the ability to transform into an older girl, Creamy Mami, who will soon become a singing star... From then on she will have to live two very rich lives, with magic to help her.

No ugly alien, no fights with powers used as weapons, the kind of show for which they have lost the recipe. According to cartoon characters nowadays, all boys and girls want to do is fight. Many cartoons I see on TV are now computer generated, which would be fine if it meant better and smoother animation. Unfortunately, it just means cheaper production costs, and actually worse quality !

If you want a show that will make you and your kids dream, sing catchy songs and overall spend a very good time, look for this series and the video sequels... They are all available in DVD in Japan (no subtitles, though), and in France (as "Merveilleuse Creamy" for the dubbed version and as "Creamy Mami" for another box set in Japanese with French subtitles), and... cross your fingers for an American release... some day.
