Cte, Viva To Launch Filipino Version of Celestial Movies Channel

Celestial Tiger Entertainment has teamed with Viva Communications to create Celestial Movies Pinoy, a localized Philippines version of Cte’s Chinese film channel Celestial Movies.

The new channel will launch on Jan. 1, 2016 on the basic tier of Dth satellite provider Cignal TV. Movies and on-air presentation will be dubbed in a mixture of Tagalog and English.

“Filipinos, in general, love movies and are now beginning to appreciate Asian productions and actors. Tagalog dubbed content is much easier to understand and enjoy which will expand its appeal to a much wider audience,” said Vicente del Rosario Jr., chairman and CEO of Viva.

Programming will be a mix of Chinese-language movies and TV series, behind-the-scenes specials, interviews with Chinese talent and thematic programming centered around superstars or popular genres.

Netflix have unveiled release dates for their film slate

Netflix have revealed release dates for their initial film slate, starting with Beasts Of No Nation, starring Idris Elba.

Netflix are going to become big players in the film world. Fact. It’s not a question of if, but rather when as today the online streaming service have released the release dates for their first four original movies.

The Idris Elba starrer Beasts Of No Nation will kick off the initial Netflix release slate, and will be released on all of their platforms on October 16th. The film will also play in selected cinemas on the same date. Following that, The Ridiculous Six will be the first of four Adam Sandler films available only on Netflix. Still Open All Hours stays top on Sunday with 6.3 million

Still Open All Hours remained on top of the ratings on Sunday evening, overnight data reveals.

The BBC One comedy amused an average 6.37 million viewers (27.3%) at 7.30pm. Earlier, Celebrity Mastermind puzzled 4.54m (22.0%) at 6pm, followed by Countryfile with 6.04m (27.8%) at 6.30pm.

Antiques Roadshow interested 5.44m (22.0%) at 8pm, followed by Last Tango in Halifax with 5.69m (22.9%) at 9pm. Match of the Day 2 scored 2.64m (21.4%) at 10.35pm.

BBC Two's live darts coverage attracted 2.54m (11.1%) from 5.45pm. Kate Humble's Into the Volcano intrigued 1.14m (5.0%) at 9.15pm, followed by Paul Hollywood's Racing Legends with 770,000 (5.5%) at 10.15pm.

On ITV, All Star Family Misfortunes entertained 2.99m (13.2%) at 7pm (158k/0.6% on +1), while Foyle's War continued with 4.33m (17.5%) at 8pm (401k/1.9%).

Channel 4's Phil Spencer: Secret Agent brought in 845k (3.7%) at 7pm (158k/0.6%), followed by The Hotel with 1.44m (5.8%) at 8pm (98k/0.4%) and Walking the Nile with 1.74m (7.0%) at 9pm (202k/1.2%).

Countryfile tops quiet Sunday with 5.5 million on BBC One

Countryfile came out on top in the ratings on a quiet Sunday, according to overnight data.

The BBC One nature series brought in 5.5 million (29.3%) at 7pm, followed by Antiques Roadshow with 5.0m (23.2%) at 8pm.

Drama Quirke continued with 3.7m (17.5%) at 9pm.

On ITV, Catchphrase puzzled 4.1m (21.5%) at 7pm (179,000/0.8% on +1). Michael Flatley's Night To Remember special entertained 3.4m (15.8%) at 8pm (192k/0.8%), followed by Bond movie Quantum of Solace with 1.9m (11.9%) at 9.30pm (154k/1.6%).

BBC Two's I Bought a Rainforest appealed to 1.6m (7.3%) at 8pm. Britain's Greatest Pilots intrigued 1.5m (6.7%) at 9pm, while D-Day: The Last Heroes brought in 1.2m (7.2%) at 10pm.

Channel 4's For the Love of Cars gathered 1.4m (6.6%) at 8pm (211k/0.9%), while Fargo's latest episode was seen by 1.2m (5.3%) at 9pm (182k/1.1%).

On Channel 5, Jackie Chan movie The Medallion attracted 912k (4.5%) at 7pm (114k/0.5%), followed by Resident Evil: Extinction with 785k (3.8%) at 9pm (134k/0.9%).

Gordon Chan to Head Film at Media Asia (Exclusive)

Hong Kong – Veteran movie-maker Gordon Chan has been appointed head of film at Hong Kong studio Media Asia.

Chan starts with immediate effect, and replaces John Chong, one of the company’s original founders, who departed last year.

Chan, who has a long track record as director and producer has worked in Hong Kong (“Okinawa Rendezvous,” “2000 Ad”) mainland China (“Painted Skin”) and the U.S. (“The Medallion”.)

Chan is expected to spearhead an expansion of Media Asia’s film production activities across the Asia region, though not necessarily an increase in production volume.

“Gordon knows the business inside out from both a creative and a business point of view,” said Jeffrey Soong, Media Asia’s CEO. “We expect him to harness the assets that we already have and to co-ordinate with the China market.”

Scott Adkins Officially Confirmed in ‘The Expendables 2’

MovieHole has officially confirmed martial artist Scott Adkins has signed on as a henchman in the upcoming action sequel “The Expendables 2.” Adkins had roles in several action films including “Black Mask 2: City of Masks,” “The Medallion,” “Undisputed III: Redemption,” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.” He will be appearing in another upcoming sequel “Universal Soldier: A New Dimension” next year.
