Affleck Unlikely for 'Daredevil 2'

12 December 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Movie star Ben Affleck will only consider making a sequel to action hero movie Daredevil if his movie making pal Kevin Smith gets involved. Speaking to website Sci-fi Wire, the Gigli actor reveals he's reluctant to revisit the role of blind hero Matt Murdock - but he might change his mind if Smith, who has directed him in Mallrats, Dogma, Jersey Girl, Chasing Amy and Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, got involved. Ben says, "I don't know about Daredevil 2. That may be too much work for me. I don't have any idea. I suppose that if Kevin Smith wrote it and was going to be involved, I would do it. But I'm not banging down the door trying to get Daredevil 2 made. You'll know when my career is really on the slide when I start resurrecting the franchise". »

Damon Insists He Approves of J.Lo

8 December 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Matt Damon insists he and pal Ben Affleck's fiancee Jennifer Lopez get along - despite reports to the contrary. After Affleck's romance with J.Lo went public last year, reports quickly surfaced that Damon was one of a series of the Daredevil hunk's celebrity pals who had doubts about the relationship. But Damon insists nothing could be further from the truth, saying, "Some people have said she bosses him around, but I never saw that. I do like her. I've met her and have spent time with her and she's very sweet and has been great every time I've been around her. And obviously, he's very much in love, so it's great, except for the media attention." Damon adds that he hasn't pulled away from his Good Will Hunting co-star since he began dating Lopez, explaining, "We haven't actually seen each other much recently. I definitely miss him a lot... but just logistically, we're always in a different place working. It's not because of Jennifer." »

Damon: Affleck Is Sick of Fame

3 December 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood star Matt Damon claims his pal Ben Affleck never wants to see his face on a magazine again - because the publicity he's attracted this year has made him "sick of himself". The Daredevil star's axed wedding to Jennifer Lopez in September and the subsequent press investigation into the state of their relationship has taken its toll on Affleck, and he sympathizes with movie fans across the world who are bored with reading about him. His Good Will Hunting co-star Damon says, "Ben told me he doesn't want to see his picture on the cover of another magazine. He said all this recent publicity is making him sick of himself. Ben understands why some people are sick of seeing so much being written and photographed about him and that's really frustrating for him." And Damon refutes accusations Affleck used his romance with J.Lo to raise his profile. He adds, "Ben didn't go into the relationship saying, 'This will get me a lot of coverage.' Ben was already getting plenty of work as an actor. He didn't need this kind of celebrity and he certainly never courted it." »

Affleck's Gambling Caused Temporary Split

26 November 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood star Ben Affleck's recent gambling binge infuriated his fiancee Jennifer Lopez so much, she reportedly ordered him to leave their home. J.Lo only decided to reconcile with the Daredevil hunk after her mum Guadalupe - who pals claim adores the actor - intervened and encouraged her to forgive him, according to website Pagesix. However, sources close to the couple - who axed their wedding in September - allege their romance remains in crisis, because Lopez is struggling to cope with Affleck's "destructive" addictions. One says, "Jennifer was very upset by the celebrity gambling tournament Ben did last month in Las Vegas. "She feels he just gives up one addiction for another and it is destructive behavior. In a strong moment, she told him to move out of her (Los Angeles) house." But just a week later, Lopez was back with Affleck and planning a poker tournament - thanks to Guadalupe's intervention. An insider adds, "Ben got Guadalupe involved and used the whole, 'Your mother wants to go gamble, too, ' card on her. Jennifer lost her nerve and they are back together again, but it is very tumultuous. Guadalupe loves Ben. She thinks the sun rises and sets on him. Anytime Jennifer has doubts, her mother lets loose on her and tells her Ben is just the best thing that ever happened to her." »

Farrell's Flashing Clarified

17 October 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Colin Farrell's representatives have spoken out about the Irish actor's flashing antics - insisting castmates are nothing but amused at his wacky behavior. Reports emerged earlier this month that the Daredevil hunk had been wreaking havoc on the Moroccan set of Oliver Stone's epic Alexander, upsetting locals with his all night drinking binges and his tendency to drop his trousers in public. It was even reported that his flesh-flashing frolics had prompted co-star Angelina Jolie to move out of the cast hotel to find her own accommodation elsewhere. But while his representatives haven't denied the actor enjoys showing off his assets, they insist no alcohol was involved, and the incident happened among a small appreciative audience. A spokesperson says, "The truth about that dropping trousers incident is that he was with the whole cast, and they were not drinking and were in costume, which were skirts, and he lifted his up and everyone laughed." »

Buyers back as MIPCOM opens

13 October 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

CANNES -- It fell on a weekend, the sun shone, and everybody bitched about having to work. But the fact was that the MIPCOM television market looks like it's turning out to have been a solid place for business as the promise of a little optimism returning to the marketplace was largely fulfilled. The message from everywhere is that purse strings are under tight control, which was borne out by the scarcity along the Croisette of billboard ads for programming. But companies were still prepared, however, to splash some cash on entertaining, and the early pace of cocktails and dinners was intense. A bash Wednesday night to launch DIC Entertainment's new animated series Stan Lee's Super 7 took on the feel of a comic book convention as international execs swarmed guest of honor Stan Lee, asking for autographs from the legendary creator of Spider-Man, The Hulk, X-Men and Daredevil. »

Garner Speaks Out About Split

10 October 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Daredevil beauty Jennifer Garner has blamed her shock break up with husband Scott Foley on the "frenzy" of Hollywood. Garner, who is now happily dating her Alias co-star Michael Vartan, admits she was as surprised as anyone else that her 2000 marriage to Foley didn't last. She sighs, "Honestly, I just don't have enough perspective on it yet. I think there are a million reasons why things don't work. The thing is, everyone says that when you're in Hollywood, you're living in the fast lane, but that's what it feels like - everything speeds up. If a (relationship) is not going to work ten years from now, it feels like it's accelerated to this frenzy and then, it's not working - boom! And you're like, 'What just happened?'" But Garner admits there was one positive side - her genuine pain seemed to keep the media off her back, and provoke a sensitive response from fans. She adds, "I think people understood that we were just two normal people who really loved each other. I think they got that we're both pretty broken hearted about it." »

Affleck Begs for a Normal Life

8 October 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ben Affleck postponed his wedding to Jennifer Lopez because he was afraid they'd never be a "normal couple", sources claim. The superstar pair were due to wed last month, but called the glitzy event off at the last moment, citing massive media interest as the reason. And now, according to British magazine Closer, friends are saying Daredevil star Ben got cold feet because he was afraid that diva Jennifer would never adapt to life without her entourage. One pal tells the gossip publication, "Ben made it clear to her that one of the key reasons their wedding plans fell in a heap was because of the number of hangers-on clogging their lives. It drives him nuts. He was desperate for some time alone so they could act like a normal couple." The Gigli pair are now said to be working out their differences, and have been spotted indulging in some very unstarry activities - shopping without an entourage, clad in casual jeans and t-shirts, and abandoning their fancy cars and drivers for a spin on Ben's motorbike. »

Lopez and Affleck "Working Things Out"

26 September 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Jennifer Lopez is "working things out" with fiance Ben Affleck, but her publicist says the pair could just as easily take a break as get married. Following intense speculation after the cancellation of their nuptials earlier this month, Lopez has finally commented through her publicist on her relationship with the Daredevil actor, which was thought to have permanently broken down after she was seen without her pink diamond engagement ring. The pair spent last weekend together, and Lopez's publicist Dan Klore says his client is "figuring it out". He explains, "I think they are working things out and I wouldn't be surprised if they're back together. I wouldn't be surprised if they got married and I wouldn't be surprised if they took some time apart." He added during an American radio interview, "She's not doing great, she's doing good," before appealing, "She's 33 years old. Leave her alone." »

Sexy singer Jennifer Lopez has not ruled out the prospect of marrying actor Ben Affleck - she's waiting to thrash out their problems with the hunk before deciding on the future. According to a pal of the "Jenny From The Block" star - who's wedding to the Daredevil hunk in Santa Barbara, California on Sunday was axed at late notice - claims the hitmaker is on contact with her estranged fiance, and the pair are due to meet in person in the next few days to discuss their relationship. J.Lo's friend tells America's People magazine, "Only the two of them know how it might turn out. Either way, she's one to confront her problems. I'm sure they're going to scream, cry and laugh and maybe figure this out. They're going to sit down and talk. They've spoken on the phone, but it's different in person. They need to do it away from the glare of New York and Los Angeles." Other sources close to the singer add that Lopez "still thinks there is a chance" of marriage with the screen star. Currently the glamorous couple are reportedly spending time apart to reflect on their romance - with Affleck residing at his Savannah, Georgia ranch, and Lopez holidaying in Miami, Florida. »

Affleck's Mother To Blame for Axed Wedding?

18 September 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Ben Affleck's mother Chris has emerged as the reason her son's wedding to Jennifer Lopez was canceled - because she didn't want him living in "a fish bowl" with the actress. The allegations broke as Affleck boarded a private jet in Los Angeles Yesterday to meet J.Lo in Miami, Florida for crisis talks, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper. However, other sources close to the Daredevil hunk claim he was simply escaping to his $16 million hideaway in Georgia, and had no intentions of meeting Lopez. Affleck's travels coincided with American journalist Janice Min's revelation that his mom was partly to blame for the axed nuptials planned to take place in Santa Barbara, California on Sunday. According to the editor of celebrity magazine Us Weekly, Ben called off the ceremony after a phone conversation with his mom, who reportedly warned her son he'd be confining himself to a life of isolation should he go-ahead with the wedding. She says, "The mother was a factor. She was worried her son would be living in a fish bowl. It's very clear Ben was the one who broke it off with J.Lo. First he called off the wedding and the next day, he called off the relationship." »

J.Lo and Ben's Future Looking Bleaker

17 September 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's future is looking more doomed by the day, with friends speculating that Ben's love of gambling has contributed to a split. The superstar couple, who blame press intrusion for the postponement of Sunday's planned wedding, spent Monday on opposite sides of America. Ben - who also competed against professionals on the World Poker Tour last month - spent Friday night in Larry Flynt's Hustler casino in Los Angeles, before emerging blurry-eyed at 6am. An insider says, "He lost some significant money and kept trying to win it back." And some friends think it's Ben's beloved betting that drove J.Lo to Miami. One says, "She never liked Las Vegas. She worried that Ben, who's a recovering alcoholic, was substituting one habit for another." But a close pal of the Daredevil star says, "Ben doesn't have a gambling problem. It's just recreational for him." »
