HBO, Mark Wahlberg & Dwayne Johnson Want $200M ‘Ballers’ Suit Tossed

18 April 2016 8:59 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

HBO's Ballers is coming back for a second season, but the nearly six-month-old $200 million copyright lawsuit against the Dwayne Johnson-starring NFL comedy should be sent off the field, the premium cabler says. Along with EPs Johnson, Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson, HBO filed a motion of dismissal in federal court on April 15 against Everette Silas and Sherri Littleton's claims that the series was lifted from their Off Season work. "The Court need do nothing more… »

Face Off Season 10 Finale preview

13 April 2016 8:45 AM, PDT | ChannelGuideMag | See recent ChannelGuideMag news »

Face Off season 10 is coming to a close with tonight’s episode. Will Melissa, Walter or Rob take the title? As we saw last week, Rob’s screen test ended with him having to re-sculpt everything. Yes, everything. He’s freaking out & I really can’t blame him. Melissa has a medium amount of work – re-doing a chest piece & her victim makeup. Walter appears to be sitting pretty with some minor edits & additions. I think I’m putting my bets on Rob – he’s been consistently strong over the entire season. If he can rally & get a crap ton … Continue reading →

31 March 2016 6:50 AM, PDT | ChannelGuideMag | See recent ChannelGuideMag news »

Face Off season 10 episode 12 sends the final 4 to Skull Island. It’s a cross-promotion for some new theme park at Universal Orlando. Whatever. What follows is an extended commercial for this new theme park – opening Summer 2016! So the actual challenge is to take a creature from Skull Island: Reign of Kong and imagine how that creature would evolve into an intelligent species. Mel is second-guessing herself. Again. She comments on how this is the worst time to be second-guessing herself. But Mel, you’ve been doing it The Entire Season! Why stop now?   Walter is freaking … Continue reading →

Face Off Season 10 episode 11 recap: The Art of Warcraft

23 March 2016 7:10 PM, PDT | ChannelGuideMag | See recent ChannelGuideMag news »

Face Off Season 10 episode 11 takes us to a very specific war – The World of Warcraft. Melissa and Walter are seriously excited since they’re avid gamers. They’ve got to take one of the video game’s characters & create a real-life version. We’ve got goblins (Yvonne), the Draenel (Walter), the Pandaren, the Tauren (Rob), trolls (Mel) and the Worgen (Melissa can’t get there fast enough). Melissa can hardly contain herself. Mel, Rob and Yvonne don’t know much about World of Warcraft, so they’re especially freaked out. We’ll see if having knowledge of the game actually helps or hurts the … Continue reading →

This week’s episode is The Art of Warcraft: The game World of Warcraft is making its way to the big screen this summer. In this clip, we get the setup of the challenge – the artists are being asked to create a character based on a World of Warcraft character. Melissa and Walter are super-stoked for this challenge. Face Off Season 10 episode 10 has the artists selecting an eyeball to create a cyclops character. To complete the look of these characters, the show has arranged for 6-7 foot tall models. Mel’s gonna need a ladder to work on her model. (Actually, most of them could’ve used a ladder. Mel just got the most crap about it.) This is a focus challenge, so it’s only a 2 day challenge. They’ve got to sculpt & mold their faces today. In this episode, we learn about eyeforms – a sphere with some screws in it that the artists use to … Continue reading →

16 March 2016 12:26 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

While Ballers may have become a successful hit on HBO, even gaining itself a second season, it's causing quite the legal battle for Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. E! News obtained the documents that reveal Everette Silas and Sherri Littleton are suing the Hollywood hunks for $200 million dollars for allegedly ripping off their idea. The pair claims they created the show called Off Season in 2007 and came to Wahlberg and Johnson with the idea in 2008. However, after being refused "created by" credit, the show ended up falling apart in 2009. Thus, Silas and Littleton are alleging Wahlberg and Johnson used their material without owning the rights to it, claiming 27 similarities »

Face Off Season 10 episode 9 starts with a Norse mythology Foundation challenge. A selection of models have been decked out with magnificent wings. They are the Valkyrie – the winged warrior Goddesses. This Foundation has a guest judge – makeup artist Douglas Noe. He gives the artists a good piece of advice – will their Valkyrie tell a story without saying a word. A piece of advice that would work for any Face Off challenge. Channel Guide Magazine has received another exclusive preview clip of this week’s episode of Face Off. This week’s episode is Smoke and Mirrors: Inspired by fairy tales, the artists must transform beautiful models into their ancient, evil selves revealed against a magic mirror. In this clip, Rob is struggling with his face sculpt. His character is female and he thinks his sculpture is reading too male. He calls on Anna and Mel for help. Stages 1 & 2 top looks will be assured safety & won’t even have to participate in the final stages. That’s pretty sweet – I’m sure they’re all running on minimal sleep these days. Round 1 – create a captain character based on his signature ship in 2 hours. The catch with this is that they have to hand-lay a beard. So anyone hesitant about laying a beard … Continue reading →

Face Off Season 10 episode 6 gives us a bit of the Beetlejuice. The artists must create a character based on a short obituary. They get to take a field trip to a large printing press to learn about their new challenge. It’s a little weird that there’s no mention of the printing company at all. Where’s the product placement tie in? It’s bizarre when it doesn’t happen. Face Off Season 10 Episode 4 Recap “Covert Characters”

4 February 2016 4:10 AM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Face Off is one of the most creative reality shows on television.  I caught last week’s episode where they had to come up with make-ups for a long-lost culture based on some artifacts and a made-up language that was created by guest judge David Peterson – the man who created the “Dothraki” language for Game of Thrones.  A show like Face Off reminds viewers of just how work goes into the shows and movies we watch, and in ways we don’t always think about.  For instance, yes, someone had to make up that language! Who’s left: Anna Cali, Johnny Leftwich, Kaleb Lewis, Katie Kinney, Melissa Ebbe, Mel Licata,

Moving right along to the Face Off Season 10 episode 3 recap. In this episode we’re dealing with lost languages and what the speakers of those languages might have looked like. We’re introduced to David Peterson, a professional language creator. How cool is that job title? David has created languages for the Face Off artists. Again, they will be working in pairs (which they get to choose themselves this time). Each team has to go into a ‘shrine’ to pick an artifact which represents an ancient tribe. That artifact corresponds with a language sketch. This week’s pairs: Njoroge & Ant … Continue reading →
