Storyline

Mary McDowell finds herself in court accused of throwing acid in the face of Elizabeth Plantney, a rival for the affections of Frank Oppidan. Mary and Frank had met when he wanted to buy some watercress. They were attracted to each other and soon were lovers. Frank very much wanted to marry her but she always refused him, without giving any reasonable explanation. Angry, Frank stopped seeing her and soon met Elizabeth with whom he became engaged. One night as they were walking along a country road, Mary suddenly appeared and threw the acid in Elizabeth's face, severely disfiguring her. Through flashbacks, Mary and Frank recount their story and important information not made public in court is revealed. Written by garykmcd

One of my favorites from PBS

This was a part of a beautifully produced and moving series based on

short stories by A.E. Coppard. I cannot remember the titles of the

other films in this series but I keep hoping I will see it released on

video and am also hoping that there are other viewers out there who have

not forgotten this excellent product
