Storyline

This story revolves around Malhar Gopaldas Agnihotri, a out-of-work actor, poor, and dependent on his father, who is heading for retirement. Malhar knows that he can act, very well indeed, all he needs is some encouragement, and some money. He gets neither. His father is abusive, and even gets physical with him openly in front of all the neighors, and even the neighborhood. Malhar loves a young lady named Apoorva Choudhury, but his affections are mis-applied, as Apoorva only regards him as a friend, and she loves Nihal Joshi, a Police Inspector. Frustrated at the lack of love and encouragement, Malhar takes recourse in an exercise, an exersise that will put him in direct confrontation with the law, as it starts with murder. An artist's choice. Another movie that deviates itself from the ordinary Bollywood cliché. With an entertaining yet though-provoking story line, this film proves itself to be a definite watch. What distinguishes this film from any other film is the script. The story has several layers, some open for analysis and some layers need some careful consideration, and that is exactly why you lose yourself in the character at the end. The film has a cyclic structure which is bound to thump the hearts of the analytics amongst the audience.

The performances are excellent, especially Nana Patekar... thoroughly outstanding performance. This man has a story to speak in his real-life, it is no wonder that he can act. He sure can do that so well. He loses himself in his character so well that the audience is left with no choice but to not only watch the movie, rather feel it (would've been perfect if the cinematography was a little better though). Madhuri Dixit, too did a good job excluding moments when I'd cringe because of here over-acting at times. Although she was excellent on screen as usual, at times I felt she had to make a real effort to keep up with the excellent performance delivered by my man, Nana!

Having said the pros, I think this movie would surely spread itself over your list of movies that you gotta watch at least once in your lifetime. So do yourself a favour.... watch this gem!
