Nolte Threatened with Jail Time

13 December 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Nick Nolte faces a six month prison spell if he fails to control his drug taking. The movie star was handed a three-year probation sentence in a Malibu, California, courthouse yesterday morning after pleading no contest to charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance. The Down & Out In Beverly Hills star was arrested on September 11 after police spotted him driving recklessly. He later tested positive for illegal club drug Ghb. Nolte's probation period will include drug counseling and testing. He was praised for his own self-imposed stint in rehabilitation, which the actor is still continuing. Wearing a designer suit and sporting a trimmed white beard, the actor, who flew into California for the hearing from London, where he's shooting The Hulk, admitted he was happy with the court's decision. He said, "I feel good and I think it's quite appropriate." »

'Night Thrasher' becomes UPN's primetime hero

24 October 2002 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Marvel Comics' black superhero Night Thrasher is ready for primetime on UPN. The network has picked up a one-hour drama from Ben Silverman's Universal-based production company, Reveille, and Marvel Studios that will be a live-action rendition of the 1990s comic book series. Brown Sugar scribe Michael Elliot has come aboard as the writer on the project, which has received a premium script commitment from UPN. Elliot will executive produce with Silverman and Marvel's Avi Arad and Rick Ungar. The Night Thrasher deal is a sign that Marvel, which has been busy in features with such blockbusters as Spider-Man, X-Men and the upcoming Daredevil and The Hulk, is now ramping up its activity in the small-screen arena. In the comic, the Night Thrasher by day is Dwayne Taylor, a New Yorker whose parents were killed mysteriously when he was 5. As an adult, he uses his excellent athletic skills and mental prowess to fight evil when the sun goes down. In the UPN show, set in the present day, Taylor will be the 25-year-old multimillionaire owner of a hot hip-hop clothing line, enjoying the high life with a penthouse apartment overlooking New York's Central Park. But he also lends his superhero services to the CIA, having been recruited by his CIA agent uncle, who raised him. »

Connelly Humiliated By Cardboard Hulk Head

13 August 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Jennifer Connelly found filming the forthcoming The Hulk movie a humiliating experience - because she had to act to a cardboard head. The Beautiful Mind actress, who plays Betty Ross in the Ang Lee- directed film, was forced to talk to a stand-in of the muscular green superhero, who was created entirely by computer. The cardboard cutout was to give her an eyeline, but the Oscar-winning actress says she found it an unsettling experience. She says, "I'm looking at pieces of pink tape on the cutout head. There's nothing there! I've never done that before, it's a little humiliating." But Lee says Connelly coped admirably with the situation, despite her initial discomfort. He says, "The first day it was a bit of a problem having her talk to the Hulk head. But within a week, she had a scene with the Hulk where she looks at him with real feeling, and all the emotion was there." »

Connelly Stays Grounded After Oscar Win

28 March 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Jennifer Connelly insists her Oscar win will not change her career too much. The A Beautiful Mind star, who won best actress, says she's grateful for the honor but won't let it change her life. She says, "I'm immensely flattered by it. All that said, you know, I'm working now on something else, and then there's the next job and it's kind of like I start from scratch." Jennifer will not let her ego swell after receiving the award. She said, "I get right back into the 'will I be good?' (mode). So, I'm just hoping that I can do well in the next (movie)." Connelly's next big movie is the action flick, The Hulk. »
